I'm attempting to install the icloud windows PC 4.0.3.56. Everything runs great right up to the end, when I get this message. Any ideas?

Well, Nothing that I have tried Works and I have done it all in every way suggested and still it will not install on my other computer. No matter what. Nothing works. Every bit of the icloud control panel is uninstalled no traces i see anywhere in computer but in control panel i see a icloud folder and it is empty nothing there no .exe nothing and it will not Delete. So i have tried and tried and tried and i do not see anyway to resolve this on the computer that i am trying to install icloud 4.0 on. I am Very very Frustrated!!! I have done completely every recommended suggested way and nothing works to resolve it.

Thanks Kurlis, this was driving me crazy, your solution works

I was able to solve the problem with the following "shortcut" -

1) Uninstall iCloud 3.1 Control Panel (You'll need to log out first if logged in to iCloud)

2) Download iCloud v4.0356 manually - not Apple Software Update

3) delete all files and folders in c:\program files\ common files\apple\internet services (not all files and folders will delete - those currently in use)

4) delete all files and folders in c:\program files x86\ common files\apple\internet services (not all files and folders will delete - those currently in use)

5) Restart the computer

5a) kill any running "Apple" processes with task manager

6) delete remaining files and folders in c:\program files\ common files\apple\internet services

and delete again; finally skip the shellxxx.dll error messages . . .and ignores them . .

7) delete remaining files and folders in c:\program files x86\ common files\apple\internet services

8) Installed iCloud v4.0

amazing, I started iCloud without a reboot and everything was fine . . . . . tried this because i was so frustrated too before . . . i start smiling again :-)

Btw: I made a image backup and created a restore point BEFORE , just in case off . . . . !!

After a couple hours fighting with installers and uninstallers, I decided to go "old school". Back in the day, one could uninstall a program just by deleting it, however nowadays with the registry, dependencies, and all sorts of hidden folders and files that automatically recreate themselves if deleted, it isn't quite as easy. But faced with a wipe, it was worth a shot. So I ran the 3.0 uninstaller, which of course failed. I then deleted everything in the Apple\internet services folders (as mentioned at nauseum above) that I could. Uninstall still failed. Time for the hatchet. Did a Windows search on the word icloud and deleted every file that had icloud in the name, including all the old install directories, photo directory, .ocx file (ActiveX addon), and the like. All except the 4.0 installer that I had downloaded. Probably overkill, but what the heck. Then I opened the registry editor and did the same thing. After backing it up, I did a search on icloud and deleted every key or subkey that had icloud in it. Note that this is dangerous! Some keys manage other programs besides icloud, so you have to know when it's safe to delete the whole key and when to just delete a subkey. It was tedious work as there were probably 50 or more keys. By the time I was finished, the registry search could not find the word "icloud". Reboot and hope. Windows 7 loaded -- whew! Run icloud 4.0 installer.... Success! It's brute force computing, but I guess erasing all memory of the program worked. I guess I'm lucky I didn't corrupt anything and that icloud wasn't listed in a dependent iTunes .ini file. Worst case, if I totally broke Windows, I would have had to wipe and reinstall, which I was prepared to do. But now it's working. Best of luck, fellow Windows warriors, and yes - it shouldn't be this hard.

Kurlis: Thank you. Your procedure worked fine with Win8.1 Pro x64 on my PC.

Yes, not all files/folders in the specified directories will delete on the first pass, but a few more were able to be deleted after the restart. Those that remain after the second deletion pass did not affect the install.

Much obliged...
