"Unable to download item. Please try again later. "

Hello. After updating to iOS8, whenever i turn off and power my phone, I receive a pop-up "Unable to download item. Please try again later. " at first I thought it was an app gone rogue but in the appstore I did not see anything suspicious. After resetting and restoring my device the pop-up kept appearing. By mistake I discovered that if I open the iBooks app the pop-up appears every time. I hace never bought or downloaded any book from here, ever. Did you encounter this error? do you have any suggestions for Me?

thanks

iPhone 5s, iOS 8

I think I fixed it. If you downloaded any albums recently (like the U2 one.) Go into your iTunes music store account in desktop iTunes > Quick Links > Purchased and make sure ALL purchases are showing. Make sure to view by Songs also not just Albums.

Now HIDE the purchase of the album booklet of whatever album you just bought.

That stopped it for me, it was the Syro Aphex Twin booklet on mine.

Also make sure you have no pending downloads in your Account section.

Thanks!

Yeah- the removing pending downloads from iTunes on a PC fixes iBooks, but not it popping up on restart for me. I even contacted iTunes Store support earlier today to remove all pending downloads from my account (of which there were 4, even though they don't show up in iTunes under account). They acknowledge they remove the 4, but still receive the message on reboots.

My guess would be it's much quicker to resolve most common technical issues by having real-time conversation, helping people through menus, asking follow-up questions, etc... is probably better to do live than waiting hours or days over email. In that case, it makes sense but does make it inconvenient for bug report submissions.

Reports (from macrumors.com) is 8.0.1 is already at carriers for testing. Apple promised the HealthKit related bugs to be fixed and an update to be released by end of month, so I assume that is what 8.0.1. We'll have to see what other bug fixes made it into the build, but there was a week or so between 8.0 GM release to developers and when 8.0 was publicly available, so it's possible a lot of bugs were submitted by developers in that week and made it into the 8.0.1 build... We'll have to wait and see, but since it's coming shortly I'll probably hold off contacting tech support about this issue myself unless it still happens with 8.0.1.

Okay so I fixed it on my iPhone but not my IPad. on your computer sometimes if you have more than 2 like I did i had two different libraries set up of music but only one was set up on my iPhone. BUT I had home sharing and match iTunes libraries on both my iPhone and PCs so everytime I would turn on my iPhone it was trying to download the songs that I had in one of my libraries but wernt present on my phone. To get rid of this i simply downloaded that stupid U2 album on both my libraries and I went into my iPhone settings under music the last thing is iTunes match take it off and also it may help to take off show all music and iCloud music storage. This got rid of it for me but no luck on my iPad im going to make an appoitment at the store and see

hope it helps

Hi there I tried 'npfetmac's fix, but it didn't work, still getting the pesky 'Unable to download item please try again later' popup everytime I power up my ipad Air. This has been happening since I upgraded to ios8, but more pertinently, since I stupidly downloaded that horrible U2 album!!

Is there a fix, it seems like tons of users are getting the same problem and there is no official fix.

I had tried the following:

1. Removed the U2 songs from my itunes

2. Used the Apply link to remove the U2 songs from itunes

3. Turned off the ibooks 'check internet' and other download switches for ibooks

4. Logged in and out of itunes and icloud numerous times

5. Downloaded the fricken U2 booklet using itunes on my PC, then deleting it

AND STILL THE DARN POPUP..There are no rouge apps yet to download!!

I WANT TO SUE u2 FOR DOING THIS TO MY IPAD!!!

"Unable to download item. Please try again later. "
