"Unable to download item. Please try again later. "

Hello. After updating to iOS8, whenever i turn off and power my phone, I receive a pop-up "Unable to download item. Please try again later. " at first I thought it was an app gone rogue but in the appstore I did not see anything suspicious. After resetting and restoring my device the pop-up kept appearing. By mistake I discovered that if I open the iBooks app the pop-up appears every time. I hace never bought or downloaded any book from here, ever. Did you encounter this error? do you have any suggestions for Me?

thanks

iPhone 5s, iOS 8

I'm experiencing the same problem. It happens probaby every 5 minutes or so while using my ipad2, hasn't happened with my iPhone 4s. I haven't added anything to iBooks. Have deleted the U2 album from the iPhone and the iPad, after the U2 album somehow downloaded twice!!! It's reeeeeeeeeally annoying. Watching movies is a problem, reading is irritating. I was hoping that the update would help (8.02), but it hasn't. Hope they solve this soon.

Apologies for adding insult to injury, but I am really liking the U2 album. I have been a fan but didn't like their last one. Have to say, this one is pretty great, the best they've done in 10 years or so. I haven't checked iBooks to see if I have the booklet, though, if that is indeed what the problem was. 🙂

This whole thing is such a mystery. We still don't even know what's causing it.

All

Solved for me... I hope!

So far have tried deleting U2 data, clearing iTunes download list and deleting anything that is 'hanging around', have unsynced iBooks and did a full restore. Did not work.

So I reinstalled IOS 8.02 using iTunes. When putting Apps etc back on the iPad I have deliberately not downloaded any music and have not touched iBooks... So far all is grand with no pop-ups. I had heard it could be a bug in the IOS 8 wi-fi download for some of us, so someone advised me to use iTunes to reinstall this. Out of the six devices we have (home and work) it was only my iPad that was doing this even thought the account is linked to my iPhone (this is fine)... Strangely, it was my iPad that we used to download the U2 item too.

Will update this if all remains cool as I will need to add books and music at some point...😢

Authself I hope it is solved for you. That would be great. What you did was one of the first things I tried. I completely wiped the device back to factory fresh reinstalled ios 8 via iTunes tethered. Of course I'd gotten rid of all U2 nonsense and loaded no music on device at all, I set it up as a new device. Did not load from a backup. And guess what. After a few minutes of playing around with it the popup was back. I have seriously tried everything there is possible to do in every combination with no luck at all.

Since the 8.0.2 update I figured I would retry some of the suggestions mentioned the past week. I hooked up my iPad air to a computer and connected to iTunes. It showed I had 3 music booklets, one from U 2, ready for download. I unchecked the 3. I then went into movies and had 4 various extras ready for download. Unchecked those. The movie extra that was downloading at the time stopped. I had never done this before and I noticed the delete command in the drop menu. I tried to delete those 7 items but they still were listed. They were unchecked so I assume they will no longer try to download? Closed everything up, unhooked the iPad and restarted. Pop up came up again about download fail and try again.

I Have all syncs turned off. iBooks, music, etc.

I am stumped and hopefully someone will come up with a guarantee fix soon or Apple will have a fix in a update.

Just as a "head scratcher" is my iPhone 4S was updated to iOS 8.0.2 and I never had the popup at any point? The iPad and iPhone i have do not share all the same apps and I only have magazines in my iPad newsstand and not the iPhone. I did not download the U2 album to the iPhone. So I am stumped on where else to look or what to do.

Okay, after updating to iOS8 on my iPod Touch 5g, I was literally getting this message around every 10 seconds saying:

Unable to download item.

Please try again later

|Done| |Retry|

I would press done every single time, expecting for the first few trys, for it to resolve the issue, and freeze the downloading process.

A few minutes I tried the background app refresh option, which has worked for some, but not me. To give this option a go here's the settings path:

~ Settings | General | Background App Refresh | OFF ~

I had no luck with this, and continued to get this message every 10 seconds. Very infuriating.

I have tried turning off a few different settings, hoping they would do the trick.... And they did! I am yet to figure out exactly which one did the trick but these are what I tried :

~ Settings | iBooks | Online Content, Sync Bookmarks and Notes, Sync Collections | OFF ~

**I am fairly sure this wasn't the one that did the trick**

~ Settings | iTunes & App Store | Music, Apps, Books, Updates | OFF

** I will gradually start narrowing down which one of these worked and post the result up later**

Guys I really hope this helps some of you! It had been bugging me for AGES! It may have been the U2 download that tripped me up, who knows! Anyways, give those a go and let me know if they work out for you!!
