SIM NOT VALID after ios 8 update

I was running a perfectly fine Iphone 5 on a sim only contract with Telfort in NL.

I have the phone without issues since it came out, today I updated via iTunes to ios 8. It failed and asked me to do a restore.

Ok I thought as I backed up everything prior to update. The problem is now it has restored it just will not go past the activation stage and tells me the SIM IS NOT VALID

It also blames everything on my carrier and the iPhone is fine. This worked fine before so I guess I should not have updated.

Has anyone else had this issue? Any advice would be really helpful

Thanks in advance

Hello,

I have the same issue, after i did the IOS 8 update, my iphone 5 was very slow and i decided to make an "Factory Reset", after this, when i arrived to the activation screen, it sais SIM not valid. I talked to Apple chat but they said i have to send it to an autorizated apple service, but that means i have to pay a lot of money, and this is not my fault, it's only apple's fault, my phone was Neverlocked and after factory reset it says that it isnt, this is very frustating. My carrier provider said that my iphone is not neverlocked, i dont know what to do more..

Thanks,

Vlad G

How was your iPhone 'never locked'? Did you purchase this iPhone new

or used? In what country from what source did you purchase the iPhone?

What wireless provider in what country are you attempting to use the iPhone with?

From what your carrie said, the iPhone is locked to a wireless carrier. If that is the

case, you must contact that carrier to see if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.

It would appear that your iPhone was hacked to allow use with other than the

wireless provider to which the iPhone was locked and the update to iOS 8 relocked

the iPhone to that wireless provider.

What does it say you look at Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier? You may have

to scroll down to see the entry for Carrier.

Hello,

My iphone was bough without a service provider contract, i recived it like a gift from a friend from USA, i am from Romania, after 4 moths of use, my iphone was replaced on International warranty in Romania because i had problems with the internal speaker, so i recived a new one, everything worked fine, my carrier network is COSMOTE Romania ( now it;s called TELEKOM), so it worked very well till i updated it to IOS 8. It was very slow so i decided to do a factory reset, and after i did the factory reset, it tells me like it's not unlocked for my carrier, but it worked very well until this factory reset. I cant activate it.. that's the problem. Thank you for reply.

There is no international warranty on iPhones. Warranty on an iPhone bought in the US

is valid only in the US. While you may have had your iPhone replaced, it was not with a

US iPhone - unless the iPhone was gray market and not intended for Croatia or was

hacked. If a factory reset has caused your iPhone to become locked to a different carrier,

the iPhone was not unlocked to begin with. If the reset caused your iPhone to become

Activation Locked, you have a stolen or lost iPhone that cannot be used until the owner

removes the Activation Lock. Take the iPhone back to your carrier for them to straighten it out.

If your iPhone has been jailbroken or otherwise modified, you are on your own.

It is hard to tell if your problem is that the iPhone is locked to a carrier other than the one you

were using or is it now Activation Locked? You use both terms, but they have different meanings.

I have the same problem, I updated the iphone 5 working fine and after install iOS 8 said invalid sim, I can't activate my iphone, I tried restore to iOS 7.1.2 and iOS 8 and entering dfu mode and restore in different computers (mac and PC) also tried my sim in other iphone 5 and 5s and tried with sim from 3 different other operators in my iphone. My sim is ok the iphone got signal and let me activate by 3g, but then said invalid sim. I never had jailbreak in my iphone. I took it to an apple store reseller and had no clue and told me to try to restore again. I have done it like 10 times since wednesday. I don't know what to do. I would appreciate your orientation.

I took it today to another apple store reseller, because in my country there isn't an official apple store. And this time they understand the problem and help me, they said that the Iphone is not unlocked to use internationally, that's why I have the problem. In the apple store reseller said that they are going to escalate the issue with apple support and let me know tomorrow. I'll let you know how it go.

I have the exact situation here, bought my iPhone 5 in Austria, sim-free, then it was replaced in my Country (Lithuania) by an authorized service provider to another iPhone 5 because of the camera glitches, I've used this phone for 6 months since and it worked OK, never restored it, never had to reset it, until yesterday. After restore to iOS 8 I'm having SIM NOT Valid screen. I'm thinking guys that replaced my iPhone haven't mapped it to my account in the "right" way, whatever that means. I've opened a case with them and I hope it can be resolved easily.

I met the exact same problem after I update my oPhone 5 to iOS 8. My iPhone 5 is a replacement from Apple store, too. I went to a Apple store, they checked it out and found it was not tied to my SIM carrier but another one in another country. They took all the information of my current and original iPhone 5 and said they will re-tie it to my SIM carrier in the back-end. It may take 12 hours but it still not been solve now. 😟

JackBauer293 and Matkaz,

SAME issue in the States. Had iPhone 5 swapped at the bar in Feb. Working perfectly until monday when I tried to update to iOS 8. Phone could not go past the initial activation screen that reads "Sim Not Valid." I thought of course its valid I've been using it fine up until now. Called my carrier Verizon, spoke to Applecare and each said they had "never heard of it happening before." I knew I couldn't be the only one. Got to the store and by the grace of God was able to get it swapped but once I got home to put my data back on it via iTunes it showed the same message once again. It has been escalated to engineering but in the meantime I have no phone. If any of you get some answers before please post!

Hello everybody, finally got my iphone back to normal, the case was escalated via email to apple from the apple reseller in my country. They verified that the Iphone was tied to my old operator, even when I left that operator 1year ago and I have a different replacement iPhone. They said that the activation profile from my old company was moved to my new iphone that I got like 6 months ago and after trying to activate showed the invalid sim error.

So they migrate the information internally and restored my iphone and the problem was solved after 1week searching everywhere and talking to the operators and technical support.

I hope that you all can solve the problem. ✅

The phone was left at Authorized Apple Service. It appears unlocked in one system and locked in another (I don't know what systems these are), they tried to convince me I had a locked phone for one and a half year now and I used at least 3 different SIM cards in it without a problem. After a short discussion between themselves they decided to escalate the issue to Apple. So far, second day, no news. no phone... But luckily I found the original invoice of this iPhone where it is stated that this iPhone bought sim free at full price.
