I have to plug in to sync. Didn't have a problem with iOS 7.

I Have same issue. I try everything, and even contact Apple yesterday nothing work. Frist time having problem sync my iPhone 6, ipad over wifi with iTunes 11.4 and IOS 8. We should write an email to Apple senior advisor lets his know the issue we have. David Graham D_Graham@apple.com.
After download and installing IOS 8.0.2 on my devices it work for a while, then one by one they stopped syncing with iTunes 11.4! Now they don't show up at all. So I'm back to plugging them directly with my iMac again! I'm going to wait and watch for updates or just wait for iTunes 12 and OX 10.10 to come out!

Hi, Roy
This appears to be an issue that we are currently working on. I appreciate you reaching back out to me to update me. I will continue to monitor what happens moving forward and relay any new information from our engineers as it comes. Thank you for your patience, but at this time we do not have an immediate fix.
Sincerely,

i sync my iphone 5s thru itunes even though it said i had no space for it
Same here, ipad3/iOS8.0.2 and iPhone6/iOS8.0.2
The ipad appears in iTunes, iphone doesn't and Wifi sync won't work, regardless if I initiate it from the device or itunes. They are attached to a power supply and unlocked when trying... The devices are looking for my computer and eventually stop.
Console Log is constantly throwing iTunes: "Failed to create replacement string" messages after the upgrade to 11.4 but don't know if that is related.
Sync attached via cable is working ok.
The problem seems to be with iTunes 11.4 and not with iOS8.0.2, what is happening is iTunes isn't loading the AppleMobileDeviceHelper which is required for WiFi Syncing.
I followed the steps on this page Mac OS X v10.6: iOS device not recognized in iTunes after restart
then did the following
1. Connect iPhone to iTunes Via USB Cable
2. Turn OFF WiFi Sync, click APPLY, click SYNC
3. Turn ON WiFi Sync, click APPLY, click SYNC
4. Quit iTunes
5. Remove iPhone from USB Cable
6. Restart iTunes
after a short time you iPhone should appear in iTunes and Sync via WiFi as normal.
Since following the above steps my iPhone and iPad sync via WiFi with out any problems.
You only need to follow the steps on the above page once, then follow the steps 1 - 6 for each iDevice to fix the problem.
Hope this is of some help.
I tried the sync reset with iTunes 11.4 / IOS 8.0.2 on add IOS decces. Only my iPone 5 has shown back up, and my iPads (Air & Mini) haven't shown up! It still like USB cable way syncing to iTunes 11.4 and waiting an update!
These steps seem to work immediately but overnight, I must still power cycle my device(s) and then restart iTunes for it to show up and sync over WiFi.
Just found that it's stopped working for me again as well. Oh well it was worth a try.
Tho what I do find weird is it now finds my iPad but not my iPhone tho both are running iOS8.0.2
The thing is happening me too! It works until the next morning, then back to no devices are show up! Like it on a timer of some kind. So back to waiting for the update to fix it!
when i plug my iPhone 6 into my mac it syncs, but the phone shows I'm not plugged in
Thank-you, worked like a charm. Cheers.
