IOS 8 won't sync music with itunes

After updating to IOS 8 on my Iphone 5, all of my music was removed. I tried resyncing it with Itunes - however once completed no new music has gone across.

Anyone know how to fix this??

Glad to hear that it worked for you. It's never easy to start from scratch, but if I add up the amount of time wasted working with restoring from backups, it pales in comparison to the amount of time setting up any iOS device from scratch. And it gets easier/quicker over time.

I've lost track of time/syncs but I continue to have no issues for weeks since cleaning up my iTunes library, setting up iOS devices as "new", and starting from scratch. Hoping that this issue is resolved for everyone both new and old to these boards asap.

PS I've seen a number of posts relative to the new iOS point release. There is nothing in this release that is going to "solve" these issues, because the issues have nothing to do with iOS or any devices that run on them. The issue, again, is caused by errors within your iTunes library, compounded by backing up and restoring from the same bad data over and over again. Check your library, over and over again. Check each and every file. Make sure that you can play it, make sure it has no errors or exclamation marks next to it. Pay attention to any error messages that come up during a sync, and write down or take a screen shot of that information. Use that specific information to clean up your iTunes library. Take good notes/screen shots on your devices' setups - screen layouts and icon groupings, email settings, all passwords and preferences, etc. Delete all previous backups within iTunes, or if you're really scared about that, wait until you perform your first healthy backup from scratch on a new device then delete them. Restore your devices to factory and set them up as completely new devices, do NOT restore from backup. Your problems should go away. Mine did. Good luck.

NONE OF THIS WORKS

i installed 8.1.3 things were fine for a couple days. i tried to add a couple new tracks i made to my phone so i could test them in my car.
now...ALL MY MUSIC AND PLAYLISTS ARE GONE. iTunes still insists they exist. i see them in iTunes. but my phone is blank. it just keeps updating purchased tracks that i don't want on my phone. these actually show on the phone but NOT in iTunes.

WHAT IS GOING ON?

i have my phone set so i update music MANUALLY. i do not like the auto syncing.

PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW TO FIX

edit: adding specs iPhone 5 iOS 8.1.3, iTunes 12.1.0.50, Yosemite 10.10.2

LONG time user....and this is the first time I've ever experienced this. all my stuff is VERY organized and setup up so that i can recover if things are lost.
BUT...no matter what i do to restore my music and playlists....sooner after adding them...everything disappears from my phone.

i have my phone set to

- SUMMARY: MANUALLY MANAGE MUSIC AND VIDEOS
- SYNC: unchecked

Start reading through the last few weeks of posts on this subject...some of us, myself included, were able to resolve some if not all problems by looking really carefully at our iTunes libraries for any errors whatsoever, fixing those errors, restoring any and all devices to factory defaults, setting them as new devices and syncing to cleaned up iTunes libraries. Do not restore from backups. Good luck!

so there is no iTunes_Control folder.... :\ dunno where you're seeing that.
purchase folder is empty and my other memory allocation is not very high. I'm telling you my setup is CLEAN.
none of that stuff worked.

what DID work for me [or seems to be at the moment] was making sure ALL music is GONE. then i set up my playlists in iTunes and have them labeled and ordered appropriately for easy rebuild. then rather than make my playlists in iTunes, I'm making them on the phone. then syncing so the new playlists show up in my phones drop down in iTunes. then i drag the tunes over from my iTunes playlist to the new playlists i created on my phone.

so far the playlists havent deleted them selves. tested by creating one playlist, adding files, removing the phone. reattaching the phone creating a new playlist and adding files to that. both lists remained intact. so far i have added five with no loss.

this is a SH**TTY and I'm super unhappy i spent 6 hours trying to sort this out only to find a HACKY workaround. pretty junky update.

there is also a bug with this forum. every time it saves progress of my post, it jumps my cursor to a random point in my post...and as I'm not a good typist i look up to find I've started typing in the wrong place and have to decipher what I've messed

these new updates are pretty bad.

so it looks at though the problem is that it does not like when i drag tunes from either my desktop or my hard drive directly to a playlist.

this will be a problem for me as i work on music and one of my test stages is to listen in my car as one of my sound test arenas, and I'm not about to burn a CD for each track[s] iteration as i work on them. thats FAR to wasteful.

this used to work flawlessly.

whats going on?

I'm working on a mac, not a pc, with a mac compatible drive. one would assume mac products would work in unison.
