IOS 8 won't sync music with itunes

After updating to IOS 8 on my Iphone 5, all of my music was removed. I tried resyncing it with Itunes - however once completed no new music has gone across.

Anyone know how to fix this??

Well,

iOS 8.2 is out and I'm hearing success stories. It appears that 8.2 has fixed the issues covered in this thread.

Right now, the music on my phone is perfect, after many hours trying to get it to that point. I don't want to risk adding anything new until I'm sure this is true.

Can anyone else confirm that 8.2 has remedied these issues?

Thanks!!!

The good news? It didn't delete any music off of my 128gb iPhone 6.

The bad news? The only thing it DID do was delete a lot of my artwork.

None of my new playlists synced (including a test playlist I set up just prior to sync). None of my changes to music synced. Literally nothing happened (other than my artwork that mysteriously disappeared)

I would stay pat if you are currently satisfied with your library. Maybe 8.3 will be our savior. (Ha!)

LOL, well, against my better judgement after reading your response, I tried anyway.

Absolutely nothing happens. ...and when I say nothing, I mean that iTunes no longer even recognizes that my phone is plugged in.

I tried everything.

(I do have the latest version of everything)

This whole thin is a mess. At least my phone is still as I like it.

But I just give up. Totally.

I thought I had resolved this problem by deleting the suspect tracks that iTunes listed during sync, but my issues returned.

However, I went from not syncing, to working perfectly -- SO FAR -- when I upgraded to IOS 8.2.

8.1.1 just did the sit and spin routine for at least an hour. 8.2 still took a long time, at least for the initial sync, but ultimately transferred music.

The most important detail is that iTunes and my iPhone 6 now agree on how much space is used by music, and how much is available. Previously, iTunes thought I had about 6 GB more than my iPhone did.

I've had successes in the past, only to ultimately revert to constant failures over time, so I'm not declaring the war over, but at least for now, it's working after upgrading to 8.2.

Adding my own experience, hoping that Apple is reading this:

since updating my iPad to iOS8, music sync has been broken. I am a DJ so syncing a large music collection to the device is vital to me.

Now my old iPhone 5 is showing signs of decay, and I am considering NOT to buy an iPhone 6 as a replacement: I used to be an Apple fan, but the loss of such a basic and essential function as music sync makes me seriously think about switching to another OS.

The time it takes Apple to solve this problem is unacceptable.

Well, the only thing that definitively worked was turning off iTunes Match and reverting everything back to "manually" managing my music.

That's it.

As soon as I went through these instructions from this thread (Turn off iTunes Match Permanently, and....) it *immediately* started syncing as soon as I plugged it into my Mac and before I logged back into iTunes.

Step 1: Turn off iTunes Match on your computer
(iTunes: store > Turn off iTunes Match).

Step 2: Turn off iTunes Match on all your devices
(iPad: settings > music > iTunes Match [off]).

(iPhone: settings > music > iTunes Match [off])

Step 3: Sign off of your iTunes account (And shut it down, then restart)
(iTunes: store > sign out)

Step 4: Disconnect your iPhone and/or iPad if they are connected to your computer. Then reconnect.

(Now you see the Sync Music dialog back and you should no longer see the iCloud message).

I would honestly say that this is a bug in the iTunes Match feature where iCloud syncing takes over from local iTunes sync with no apparent option to turn it off again. Apple should add an option to allow local sync to take priority over iCloud to prevent this.

Ladies and Gents,

There are a few valid fixes out there depending on how and why your iPhone isn't syncing. In my case my daughter unplugged my iPhone during a sync and my iPhone ended up with bad sync data for Music and Videos (ghost data). Reinstalling iTunes (completely), forcing to resync music wasn't doing it.

Solution:
1. I have Apple Match/Apple Music so I first had to set Apple Music to "Off" from my iPhone (Settings > Music > Show Apple Music).

2. I had to remove videos and music from my iPhones Managed Memory:

"Make sure you really want to delete all the music because they can’t be restored afterwards.

  1. Open General > Usage > Manage Storage in Settings.
  2. Wait for iOS to load all the apps that take up the storage of your iPhone/iPad.
  3. Find and select Music from the list.
  4. You’ll see All Music in the list. Tap the
    Edit
button on the top right, and choose to delete All Songs."
  5. Repeat Steps 1-4 for Videos.

3. Once iPhone is cleared of bad sync you can resync from iTunes.

4. Turn on Apple Match/Apple Music AFTER the your Music sync to reduce consumption on your Data Plan.
