IOS 8 won't sync music with itunes
After updating to IOS 8 on my Iphone 5, all of my music was removed. I tried resyncing it with Itunes - however once completed no new music has gone across.
Anyone know how to fix this??

So once you have tried to play a song on the iPhone and it won't play as it hasn't synced properly, when you sync again the previously failed song miraculously appears. Not a long term solution especially if you have 3000+ tracks. But if you try to play the first song in an album it will flick through the others until it finds something it can play in that album: If not it closes. You can then sync again and the album appears on the phone. This does improve speed but as I said not a long term solution. Need a proper update to sort this. Please let this not be about wanting us all to subscribe to iTunes match .....
Yes - I've had times where I've synced and for songs which have recently been modified (adding lyrics or changing album art, for example) I've found that those songs have been removed from the device (I don't even get the greyed out inaccessible listing - it's just completely gone). Every time this has happened, another sync has replaced the song.
I should add that the only way I've been able to avoid it hanging up completely is to restart both the phone and the Mac before a sync, and even then sometimes there is a delay ("Waiting for changes...") of around 30 minutes. But it gets done.
I too hope that iMatch is not required. I doubt that it is, because my 5S and 6 are the same software level, and accessing the same iTunes right now.
I think it is a specific issue with the iPhone 6, because the device behavior is so different from previous devices I've used with this same set of playlists and podcasts: iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 4th gen, iPhone 5, and 5S.
No, iTunes Match is not required (it is off on my computer and iPhone) nor is Apple forcing people to only use iTunes Music Store purchases...
My fix continues to work, hopefully it will help others. The only other thing I did prior to my fix was a backup and restore of the iPhone. But I don't think that mattered, as the problem persisted until I tried the steps outlined in the earlier post, at least for my scenario.
I have my entire Library synced, and no matter how many syncs I perform, I don't lost access to any music.
My 4S has the problem, too, so it's not just the 6.
it doesn't work, seems we will have to move to Samsung!
I have never posted on these message boards...
This weekend I have read every post on this subject. Unfortunately none of them have helped getting music back on my phone. (I was trying to sync new music when I clicked the "upgrade to ios 8" button...big mistake).
I think my problem may also involve syncing in and of itself. When I hit sync on itunes, the top billboard says "syncing" for about half a second, then quits. I have tried everything.
Any other suggestions appreciated.
Brian
I have been working with applecare and they had me restore as new. I got all my music 3500+ songs and then I put my apps on the phone syncing again. iTunes deletes all the music that is not purchased in iTunes, for example, the new Thom Yorke album he released this week on bitorrent.
Brett,
I have tried all of those steps and it hasn't worked!
Please help!!!!!
I am convinced it is a bug in the software. I restored as new and everything.
Greg great instructions but there is a bug, because it should not be this hard to sync music.
I'm having the problem with my iPhone 6, as well as my old iPhone 5S, both running 8.0.2. Oddly, I am not having the same issue with two iPod Touchs or my iPad Air, even though they're running the same OS version.
Very frustrating.
Ok i found out what you need to do. In settings, go to Music. Then scroll down to home sharing. Once you log into your apple ID you will be able to drag and drop music.
I can't speak for everyone, but I know a lot of people, including myself, want to sync their music and not just drag and drop it onto their device.
I'll say it again because this is the only way this gets fixed properly and without having to come up with 500 workarounds that only work temporarily: go to https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html and take 5 minutes to let Apple know what is going on.
did you try logging into the home share and try to sync?
