Exact same issue, except on a 128GB model. I felt as if the battery drain and heat output were related - something is drawing a lot of power, generating a lot of heat and draining the battery. iOS 8 does have some tools to look at battery drain, and does show the app store accounted for 58% of this morning's drain. After that, home and lock screen have had 19% and messages 7%.

I've tried turning off automatic updates (settings > iTunes & app store > automatic downloads > updates > off). The phone seems to have cooled down, but it's too soon to say if this has helped the battery situation. Could anyone else confirm if this has helped significantly?

This shouldn't be a permanent solution - I don't expect to have to turn features off to be able to hold my new iPhone, but if this is the problem, it should be fixable in the software.

I haven't had the chance to use it enough for a meaningful reading of battery usage although, like you, I expect it will be connected to the heating issue. I just downloaded a few books and the phone quickly became too hot to handle comfortably. I'll try turning off auto updates and will let you know if it helps.

I will respond to the size, design and feel question as well. After picking up the 6 and 6+, I like the size of the 6 but I prefer some of the functionality of the 6+. Such as the rotating home screen and the image stabilization. The digital stabilizer in the 6 works well so that's not as big of a deal for me. I can't comment on the picture taking yet but I think I will be impressed with the quality. I like how thin it is and the screen size is nice. It should be interesting to see how apple pay works. More will come from testing and playing on it.

I am having the same issue. Only a matter of minutes out of the box and setting it up and it started getting hot. Contacted chat and they were really unhelpful. Suggesting the phone was warm from my hands

Same here - very hot just going through various setup procedures! 128GB iPhone 6.

Though it seems to cool down very quickly too.

It may be a 'feature' like AppleTV 1 where the case is designed to dissipate heat 😮

OK on an AppleTV1 you didn't have to hold!

Oh no! Reading this thread is scaring me. I haven't gotten mine yet.

It's not that scary really. Out of the millions sold very few have problems. Only those who are having issues come here for assistance, the rest you never hear from. I just got notice my 6 is being shipped out today so I'm looking forward to using it in a week or so.
