iMessage problems after ios 8 update

When my iMessage stopped working (Saturday) I was in an area where I was receiving good cell signal. I received strong cell signal all day on Saturday and it would not activate despite it trying to for over 8 hours. Yesterday I was barely getting any cell signal and iMessage would not verify my phone number (although I had great Wi-Fi signal). Today iMessage began working once I began receiving strong cell signal. I hope you gets yours working again.

I Downloaded iOS 8, and one group message I had started to split into two messages. I can reply in both messages and both messages have the same people, but it's inconvenient to have two of the same group messages. I get half of the replies in one group, and half in the other, and it's very hard to keep track of the order. Is there any way to fix this?

@Martian22 Just delete the conversation and start a new one with the same people. It will then revert to iMessage and everything will work as before *. It's the only way. Refer to my earlier post

* Almost everything, I've also now lost my ID so my email address is appearing on my friends' conversations. Was all OK before the upgrade.

there`s another problem with ios 8 messages app that not a lot of people noticed. not receiving messages obviously *****, but what about not beeing able to delete them ?

well, actually, you can delete them, but not their date. ha. all conversatoins are sorted by the last message`s date in a descending order. the problem is that if you delete one of those last messages, the message actualy dissapears but the date is still there and that conversation doesn`t rearange itself to the correct position in the list.

this might not look like much, but it makes lieing virtually impossible and you can`t say "oh, haven`t talked to X in 2 months" any longer because if someone looks at your phone, that conversation is right at the top, with the date of the last deleted message. i know, i know, not the most noble of reasons to report a bug but basically, it`s a privacy issue.

i`ve found no solution for this yet and an update from apple is really important here, and as fast as possible.

...support forums are acting oddly today. On the first page I am logged in, if I want to view the second page it logs me out and I can't post. Weird.

Anyway, I got all messages working using the tip I posted above. Still having the issue of only texts I send to myself showing up in the notification center on my iPhone, IPad or Desktop. Anyone else having this issue still?

So I have yet another issue with iMessage. Several months ago my son's mom jumped from iPhone to Samsung. I could get her texts to me but she could not get mine. I was told to turn off iMessage and she will get my text. I turned it off and sure enough she got my texts. So I have left iMessage turned off so I can communicate with my son's mom. Fast forward to today, the day after I updated to iOS 8 and I am noticing that I can no longer send messages to other iPhone users with iMessage turned off! It tells me "It cannot send me this message until iMessage is turned back on!" Once I turned it back on, and go back to the message, it sends with no problem. Turn iMessage off and I have problems. The person I was texting has the iPhone 6. I take that back, I just texted someone who has an iPhone 5c and my texts to her are going through with no problems with iMessage turned off. Who has time to keep turning iMessage on/off just to send a text message??? This is nuts!

I did that and it didn't work. I keep having to replace the SIM Card in my iPhone to keep iMessage working, whereas before the upgrade, it had no issues over WiFi.

I'm restoring back to 7.1.2 when I get back to my computer.

Your solution worked just fine for me, on device iphone 5 running ios 8.0, after upgrading I wasn't able to set up iMessages, due to "wrong password".

I did reset all settings, changed password, after that iMessage just started working as expected without any issues.

I have similar issues. Phone sends out only SMS! Even if SMS is turned off in settings!

Reset resolved my issue, but guys I never experienced such issue by Apple. What is going on there?

FIxed mine by holding down "back" and "power" button while in passlock screen. Does somekind of restart/reset. Hope it helps.

I have my iMessage account set to reply and sent to my gmail account and phone number only, not me or icloud email address. Still, only certain messages appear in the notifications tab of notification center, and even then they only stay for a few minutes, unlike phone calls and other alerts. ANy idea as to way?

To add a little more on my experience here. It isn't just group messages, it's every single iMessage conversation and (in my case at least) can only be fixed by deleting the whole iMessage conversation thread (all other hard resets, SIM out, network settings resets do nothing to fix).

If I try to use an iMessage conversation thread that started pre-iOS8, it will just hang indefinitely trying to send my reply and when you leave the thread and go to another, you lose everything you have typed. If you delete the whole conversation and then start a new iMessage to the same recipient (or same recipients), it gets sent straight away and all replies then behave as they should (and as they used to in iOS7).

The upshot of this for me is that every single iMessage conversation has to be deleted after upgrading to iOS8 otherwise I'll run the risk of ultimately replying to someone, my reply not being sent, and the device losing my reply completely.

Two words for Apple: REGRESSION TESTING

So I have not updated to iOS 8. But this morning I reset my apple ID password. Now all of my texts are going though as test messages and not imessages. I did what you said to do because it seemed like it could be the same problem. However, it hasn't changed anything. I even deleted a thread and tried to start a new message and it is still only sending texts.

Thoughts?

OK got it fixed,first turn off imessages(make sure sms is turned on). Then go to settings/icloud sign out but leave everything on the phone.Sign back in afterword,go back to settings/messages and turn back on imessages.Then go to general/reset then reset network.Wait for phone to reboot and presto everything should be back to normal.I get my messages via notifications and they stay till i go into my messages and the message is there as well.Hope this helps everyone.I'm still new to the whole apple thing;I'm a PC guy myself but when it comes to troubleshooting its all the same...
