Messages Photos Not Showing: iOS 8 on iPhone 6

Hi,

After upgrading to a new iPhone 6 with iOS 8, photos that people are sending me in Messages are showing as "Downloading" even when they have been fully downloaded. The only way to see the photos is to click "Details" in the top right and then browse through media that has been sent in the chat at the bottom of the next screen.

Anyone else? Thoughts on how to fix it?

These have all been chats that were pre-existing on my iPhone 4S before I backed it up and restored it to the iPhone 6, by the way.

Regards,

Tim

Similar problem:

I've update my iPhone 5 from iOS 7.1.2 to iOS 8. None of the pictures i received after the update are showing in the messages timeline, although they are displaying in notifications and the "Detail" view without any problems.

Here's a screenshot (german)

User uploaded file

Pictures that were sent before the update are showing correctly.

Rebooting causes to display a question mark instead of the loading-box.

Deleting a conversation and starting a new one doesn't fix the problem.

Very annoying :-(

Anyone any solution?

Hi everyone - i had the same problem as well and reseting my network and my messages did not work for me as i was running multiple devices with iMessage - i came across this posting and it solved the problem. I did do both the network reset and turning off iMessage and then did this , so possibly it was a combo of all three. I started with iPhone and had all other devices powered off after disabling iMessage. after the phone was working properly i added one device at a time. Good luck:

Issue: Cant view pictures sent to you thru iMessages from other iPhone users

Solution: If you are using another Mac device with iMessages, you have to disable them all (sign out). Then on your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages. Turn Message “off”. Wait 5 seconds, turn back “on” and below under Send & Receive, remove any other emails or numbers for Messaging other than your primary number. So you should just have one under that section.
Now you should be able to get pictures. If so, now you can re-enable Messages on all your other devices.

This is a helpful summary of what's been suggested so far. Sadly, none of these worked for me. 😟

I was looking up some older threads about this as well, but they are not too helpful either:

Failure to load pics from messages sent to me on my iPhone 5.

I am receiving things on my iPad and on Messages on my Mac normally.

And, you can click "Details" and see the images on the phone, but they are just not appearing in line. Very strange bug.

Thanks, blakeness.

I turned off Messages on my iPhone, iPad, and signed out from the Mac Messages.

I waited a bit, then turned on the Messages on the iPhone first but the question marks were still there. I don't know if this means it will be fixed going forward, but the images did not load. Not sure what else do to. Hmm...

UPDATE: A friend just sent me a test message and it worked! BUT, his previous message is still a question mark. So now I can't tell if this has something to do with the message type or what... Hmmmm!

Finally fixed this issue.

The method you mentioned above not work for me.

I tried to disable and enable iMessage and turn on/off my iPhone 6 plus for over 30 times. But not work.

I also tried to reset network settings, even all settings. But still nothing happen.

Therefore, I provide the way that I used, but it costs much more time than other method.

1. First, you should backup the iPhone to your iTunes.

2. Then, clean all contents and settings.

3. The iPhone will ask you activate it again, just follow the guide, but don't enable iCloud in this time and should "Set as a new iPhone". (Don't use any backup file to restore.)

4. Then, disable iMessage, and use MMS to send a pic to yourself or anyone.

5. Restart the phone, check whether the pic still shows, if it becomes a "question", it failed.

6. Now, use iCloud to backup your iPhone, make sure iMessage still not enabled.

7. After backup the iPhone with iCloud, clean all contents and settings again.

8. Now, you should restore the backup from iCloud.

9. Do step 4~5 again, then use iTunes to restore the iPhone (don't reset content in this time)

10. Do step 4~5 again. If it still works, you can turn on iMessage.
