Messages Photos Not Showing: iOS 8 on iPhone 6

Hi,

After upgrading to a new iPhone 6 with iOS 8, photos that people are sending me in Messages are showing as "Downloading" even when they have been fully downloaded. The only way to see the photos is to click "Details" in the top right and then browse through media that has been sent in the chat at the bottom of the next screen.

Anyone else? Thoughts on how to fix it?

These have all been chats that were pre-existing on my iPhone 4S before I backed it up and restored it to the iPhone 6, by the way.

Regards,

Tim

Similar problem:

I've update my iPhone 5 from iOS 7.1.2 to iOS 8. None of the pictures i received after the update are showing in the messages timeline, although they are displaying in notifications and the "Detail" view without any problems.

Here's a screenshot (german)

User uploaded file

Pictures that were sent before the update are showing correctly.

Rebooting causes to display a question mark instead of the loading-box.

Deleting a conversation and starting a new one doesn't fix the problem.

Very annoying :-(

Anyone any solution?

I tried everything listed in this post and nothing fixed it… UNTIL.. I called AppleCare.

Simply go into Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings. This will only erase your display and general settings, ringtone etc. It won't erase any data or media.

Sure enough this fixed my issue immediately when it restarted. AppleCare is awesome.

After following the steps outlined in the posts on this thread (thank you), all the photos in newer messages show up just fine. However, on one of my devices older photos show up as question marks. On another one of my devices all of the photos appear as they normally would.

Has anyone found a way to recover the older photos that just display as question marks?

One would think like said above someone from Apple would jump in and say something. This thread has been going on a while and their have been some IOS updates and one would think that this would be fixed. Maybe Apple has no idea how to fix this or is to concerned about their new "Watch" coming out soon. Their are so many bugs with this IOS 8 and they are coming out with a "Watch".

Does this make sense to just me or does it make sense to everyone else too.... Fix your problems first before coming out with new products? All these Apple Forums keep talking about is problems and bugs, but the IOS updates do not seem to fix them. Does any of that make sense? Last one I think was their "Ringtone" fix. I could care less about ringtones and care more about bugs like this which should take precedence over that.

I know that they have people "beta" testing their new IOS Updates, but those are the developers and if I was a developer the only concern I would have is that my application works with the new IOS Update coming out.

Maybe they should let the people who actually use the phones test the new IOS Updates and report bugs back to them because obviously the developers are not. I can see that the applications seem to always run smooth and if it does have a bug they fix it pretty fast, hence the reason for the updates from them.

Maybe Apple should act as fast as them fixing their problems because paying .99 cents for an application I get service when their is a bug. Pay over 500.00 and sit back and wait and wait and wait and wait....I know this is getting off the subject of the thread but my calendar has had problems for like 6 months plus when I change alert times they seem to set to whatever they want and I have to delete the event and put it in again. Not to mention if I go to the "Year" showing it hangs up and I have to restart my iPhone to get it to stop hanging up.

I guess it boils down to a .99 application if you do not like it delete it and find a new one. Pay over 500.00 for a iPhone and you are stuck. Now time to go search why I have like 50 DCIM Camera Roll folders and some have one or two pictures in it. Another bug going on for a long time and wish it would go back to one for pictures and one for videos, but that would be to simple to fix just like this with the iMessage or maybe their is just a combination of bugs in the IOS they just do not know how to fix or get them to work correctly with each other.

That is my guess reading all the forums with all the problems people are experiencing that with so many problems they just cannot get it together and fix them, but here comes the new "Watch" which I am sure will have tons of problems too making more for IOS 8 and whatever new bugs that they create.

Same with my iPhone6. I have 8.1 - no recent upgrades and I notciced that pictures sent or received in old messages from iPhones or other devices are now showing a ? IMG with a file number them JPEG. I don't want to restore from backup because it's been several weeks. And I didn't just download 8.1 - I've had it for quite some time, so why would this happen all of the sudden. I can send and receive pictures no problem but the old ones have the issue - it doesnt make sense to reset network settings or turn off and then turn on imessaging if the problem doesn't exist currently- how do I get the pictures in the old messages back?
