Messages Photos Not Showing: iOS 8 on iPhone 6

Hi,

After upgrading to a new iPhone 6 with iOS 8, photos that people are sending me in Messages are showing as "Downloading" even when they have been fully downloaded. The only way to see the photos is to click "Details" in the top right and then browse through media that has been sent in the chat at the bottom of the next screen.

Anyone else? Thoughts on how to fix it?

These have all been chats that were pre-existing on my iPhone 4S before I backed it up and restored it to the iPhone 6, by the way.

Regards,

Tim

Similar problem:

I've update my iPhone 5 from iOS 7.1.2 to iOS 8. None of the pictures i received after the update are showing in the messages timeline, although they are displaying in notifications and the "Detail" view without any problems.

Here's a screenshot (german)

User uploaded file

Pictures that were sent before the update are showing correctly.

Rebooting causes to display a question mark instead of the loading-box.

Deleting a conversation and starting a new one doesn't fix the problem.

Very annoying :-(

Anyone any solution?

"ssorry it took me so long but the news isn't good. the guy I talked to knew what he was doing. short story is the message app is corrupted. that was the error message he got. he said I can backup to the cloud and do a restore but I'd prob just be backing up a corrupt nessagf app and then restore it on my phone. he said I could save any pick I have and reset phone to factory. but in that scenario I still lose all those message pics. They don't fix a bug until a ton of people complain. sorry :-("

More specifically, in a question re a similar problem in OS X Messages, a data file containing attached images was inexplicably changed to a folder, resulting in the lost images. I feel something similar may have occurred in iOS 8.1.

Maybe there'll be a fix--I hope so--but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm in a family group chat where everyone has an iPhone except for my sister with an Android. My sister sent two pictures to everyone and I only received one that loaded and ever since then I have probably received 300+ texts in the last two hours with a blank image that will not load. I'm the only one in the chat receiving it and I've talked to both Apple and my service provider and none of their troubleshooting techniques worked. I'm probably going to end up chucking my phone at my brick wall if I receive any more blank messages, which I will.

I think this issue is due to the original update to iOS8 when the removed the 'Camera Roll' folder and replaced it with 'Recently Added'. When they updated to iOS8.1 they brought back 'Camera Roll' but in doing so I believe the development team didn't properly redirect iMessages to where all images could be found. This should be a fairly simple fix for Apple but not enough people (despite many with the issue) haven't written or spoken up about it. Hopefully in another update we will have a solve.
