I assume no one has set up their device as a new device as opposed to restore from backup or via upgrading?

I have the same problem but decided to set up a spare iPhone as a new device. It now successfully syncs via WiFi and has not lost connection for the past 2 weeks. My iPhone 6 however loses connection after a few hours (which was restored from a backup).

I might have to bite the bullet and wipe my iPhone and set it up as a new iPhone rather than restoring from backup if 8.1 does not fix the issue. However from reading other forums, people who have the 8.1 beta state that it does not fix the problem.

I'm one of those people who upgraded to Yosemite in an attempt to fix this. Well, that was one reason. The other was I like shiny new bells and whistles.

As to the question of why I would do this in an attempt to fix the wifi syncing problem, it's pretty much from desperation. I had a choice, leave it for weeks before the problem is fixed, try to revert back to iOS 7 or upgrade. The upgrade, while clearly not the solution in the end, was the easiest of those choices.

I'm not a tech person but my thinking was that clearly iOS 8 and Mavericks have a problem talking to each other. There is definitely a problem introduced by iOS 8. So, maybe, just maybe, since they were released at almost the exact same time, iOS 8 and Yosemite would not have that problem.

Yes, I still don't have wifi syncing but I do have shiny bells and whistles (and their own sets of new problems).

Here's a new "wrinkle" guys and gals.........I was one of the original posters to this discussion having the same wifi syncing issue with my iPad and iPhone 5. It would work when I restarted each device and would they would stay listed in my iTunes until I closed down my computer. Now, my iPad all of the sudden syncs without my having to restart it but not my iPhone. I have done nothing to the settings on either device. Go figure. I am running Yosemite, iTunes 12 and IOS 8..................

The reason why it made good sense to think that Yosemite could have helped is because of the nature of the problem. Wifi is not broken. The protocol that runs on top of wifi and connects the iOS 8 devices with the host Mac is where the problem lies. It was reasonable to think that iOS 8 implemented a change to the protocol that has to be supported at both ends of the connection, and Mavericks was missing the host end functionality.

However, Yosemite has done nothing to address the problem, so now we hope that it's just a bug in iOS 8 and eagerly await the 8.1 release on Monday. Personally, I'm not optimistic.

"There is no question that it's an IOS-8 problem."

Respectfully, there is no way for anyone not in the Apple development team to know that. Don't confuse "the problem only affects iOS 8" with "it must be an iOS 8 problem". There are two ends to every sync protocol. There is no way for non-developers to know if the fix will come in the form of an iOS 8 compatibility fix for OS X, or an update to iOS 8, or both.

Oh really. Please explain why you believe there is no question that it is an iOS 8 problem. I'm very interested to understand how you can know that, without knowing what the problem is. Do you have protocol sniffing tools? Do you have access to the device registration/sync protocol spec? Very curious how you can be so certain.

The problem appeared for me with the latest version of iTunes. After some experimentation I fixed it as follows:

  • With the phone connected, click on its icon
  • Uncheck WiFi syncing
  • Click Apply
  • Quit iTunes
  • Launch iTunes
  • Check WiFi syncing
  • Click Apply

Since doing this my WiFi sync has been restored (but that was only an hour ago - I'll try again tomorrow)

The OS upgrade may have an affect on wireless syncing to iTunes. My experience with all the recent updates is:

Update to iOS8, still had OS 10.9.4 and wireless syncing worked fine with my devices.

Upgraded to OS 10.9.5 and wireless syncing broke.

Upgraded to Yosemite and wireless syncing is working on my iPad mini but not my iPhone or iPad 3.

I look forward to iOS 8.1 to see if it fixes the other 2 devices.

Good luck but I wouldn't have any confidence.
