TV Show Art / Thumbnails Missing On IOS 8

Gear: iPad Mini, 1st Gen, iPad Air 3rd Gen, iPhone 5S all upgraded to IOS 8.

ITunes 11.4 on iMac.

I have ripped TV shows with metadata and art that show fine in iTunes and worked fine on IOS 7 and iTunes 11.3 and before.

Now after syncing I have TV shows with just a grey square where the art would show on ALL my iDevices. I've done the following to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Removed the TV Shows from iTunes. Rebooted the iMac and re-imported the TV shows back to iTunes. Art and metadata show fine in iTunes, but upon sync to any of my iDevices the shows copy over fine but without the art. Each of my iDevices has its own iTunes library.

2. I've rebooted my iDevices and I've erased all content from my iPhone and did a fresh setup with a fresh iTunes library, yet the art/thumbnails don't copy over to the device.

3. I ripped a brand new TV Show that had never been in my library and that too, did not copy over the show art, but it does show in iTunes.

I'm not sure if this is an IOS 8 problem specifically but I'm leaning towards that. It may also be a an iTunes 11.4 issue. Nevertheless the shows do play but it's just annoying that the show art isn't showing on any devices.

If you've got a remedy I haven't done in steps 1-3 above please let me know.

Thanks.

Did you re-sync your tv-shows?

I've checked on a couple. One's that were on iPad before 8.2 update are still with gray thumbs, but the new one's are with color frames just as they were before.

Question is How can we manage that color frame at all? Be able to select any frame of video would be very cool. Poster frame feature has no effect.

Since marcmc wasnt able to get it working, would you mind explaining if you had to "resync" as suggested by egious? Perhaps it is a necessary step to unsync off of the device, then resync to get it to show.

i Would love to test myself and post instructions if necessary but it is unconfirmed whether or not the jailbreak will be possible with 8.2. After the problems with artwork in ios 8, I decided to jailbreak to look for a solution or alternative. Needless to say I didn't find one. However, there were Many other things I found that now I feel i can't do with It. Anyway, my wife would probably be willing to lose hers so any steps out of the norm would be great if identified.

also, have you guys tried to sync home videos with artwork to see if you can see it? Lastly, can we have artwork with any shape we want like before or does it still need to be specific (square for tv shows, rectangle for movies?)

1. First of all I never got any problem with main artworks (like Movies or TV Shows thumbs). Maybe because I usually do them by myself and following the simple aspect rule: square for TV-shows and 1:1.5 for Movies. Resolution may vary around 1000x1000 for TV-shows and 1000x1500 for Movies (720x1080 - 1400x2100). Yes, I've heard about issues with artworks less than 600x600 or so, but as I mentioned before never got this problem. For those who did I recommend just increase the existing artwork size or find (or make) a better one.

2. Jailbreak is really deep topic and I prefer not to discuss it here. AFAIK, there's no current public solution for 8.2.

3. Since I updated my devices to iOS 8, I lost the ability to see any artwork for my TV-show _episodes_. Digging the internet only points me to this topic but without a solution. Only episodes which I bought from iTunes had artworks but none of my imported from other places. And even with iTunes episodes there were issues.

4. Last night I updated my old iPad 3 to 8.2 on the air. At the moment of update there were couple of TV-shows in that iPad and they didn't have any artworks for episodes as usual since iOS 8. After update there were gray thumbs as well. But, when I synced another show and even some new episodes of my existing shows they all now have they artworks for episodes. Unfortunately I don't know how to manage that artworks but at least they are present and they exactly the same as on iOS 5.0 (checked with first iPad).

Here's what I did to test.

I went to my music folder on my iMac and copied the TV shows from my iTunes folder to the desktop. Deleted them from my iTunes library within iTunes.

No I have no TV shows in my iTunes library. Dragged the TV shows from the desktop back into iTunes. Re-sync of iPhone. My cover art was present and it was square as I got it from the web (Dodson Square Art) I believe was the site. Once the re-sync was completed the TV show cover art was present (as it always was) and now the episodes showed the frame grabs as it always did. So everything is back to normal.

8.2 won't provide frame grabs for shows on your devices. You must remove them off your device and then re-add to itunes and re-sync. Pretty easy.

Agreed that having success finally getting TV show episode art to show up now and finally! But what I note now is when I remove from iTunes, then re-add to iTunes if I just take two different shows for example, when I bring them in, they both appear under the same show thumbnail in the opening TV Shows screen on the iPhone. When you tap on that, it goes to the large show art with two episodes under the same "TV Show", which are actually one episode from two different shows. Has anyone seen this? The metadata in each get info screen has the tv show, episode name, episode number and season number all completed properly, and the artwork embedded in each is different, yet they choose to show both under one thumbnail as separate "episodes" and one art and its separate identity as a different show seems to be being ignored. Thoughts?
