TV Show Art / Thumbnails Missing On IOS 8

Gear: iPad Mini, 1st Gen, iPad Air 3rd Gen, iPhone 5S all upgraded to IOS 8.

ITunes 11.4 on iMac.

I have ripped TV shows with metadata and art that show fine in iTunes and worked fine on IOS 7 and iTunes 11.3 and before.

Now after syncing I have TV shows with just a grey square where the art would show on ALL my iDevices. I've done the following to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Removed the TV Shows from iTunes. Rebooted the iMac and re-imported the TV shows back to iTunes. Art and metadata show fine in iTunes, but upon sync to any of my iDevices the shows copy over fine but without the art. Each of my iDevices has its own iTunes library.

2. I've rebooted my iDevices and I've erased all content from my iPhone and did a fresh setup with a fresh iTunes library, yet the art/thumbnails don't copy over to the device.

3. I ripped a brand new TV Show that had never been in my library and that too, did not copy over the show art, but it does show in iTunes.

I'm not sure if this is an IOS 8 problem specifically but I'm leaning towards that. It may also be a an iTunes 11.4 issue. Nevertheless the shows do play but it's just annoying that the show art isn't showing on any devices.

If you've got a remedy I haven't done in steps 1-3 above please let me know.

Thanks.

This is garbage from Apple. How many things has iOS8 broken??? I've lost count. I ripped a fair few TV shows too which are in my library and whislt I don't sync them to my devices I use home sharing in videos app quite a bit. Films show the thumbnails fine but the TV shows are hit and miss whether they show them. Whilst on iOS7 this was fine and on my apple TV they display fine. Really despise Apple's rushed and poorly QA tested iOS8 - problems all over the place.

Came across an article on Macworld showing how to get the old style Get info in Itunes 12. I don't have an iPad to test and see it this makes a difference.

"If you’d like to continue doing this the old fashioned way, you can. Hold down Control-Option and then click on the video. From the contextual menu that appears choose Get Info. The old-style Info window will appear, where you can edit tags as you did previously."

I have tried this. The control-option does bring up the old style get info window. Unfortunately it doesn't solve the issue. Since it's very clear that Apple decided for some unknown reason, to change what the iOS devices will display for TV Show artwork. Unless Apple decide to change this in a future iOS update, I don't think there is anything that we users, can do to resolve this.

I have had some success for those who are interested. I'm confident this is not a fix and it is certainly fiddly!

I have my TV show artwork back on my iPad (8.0.1) and same on my iPhone 5S. It is only the cover art at this stage and the episode art (landscape rectangular) is still greyed out.

This is what I did:

1) Firstly, I wanted to change my TV show artworks from portrait to square artworks because I wanted my library to be uniformed for my mac and Apple TV, not so much expecting the art to show on the iPad. Having recorded all the kids shows on free to air TV I originally used MetaZ to tag all the shows with the information. They were processed in iTunes via an external drive.

2) Next, I upgraded to a new Macbook running Yosemite. And then spent a week re-created my millions of artworks (slight exaggeration) to square artworks 800x800 pixels

3) I deleted my TV Show library and re-processed the shows into iTunes via the external drive. Instead of using MetaZ again I decided to use iTunes to change all the artworks (which worked quicker than I expected). I'm wondering whether using iTunes and not another program made a difference to this working or not.

4) I did a new sync (having a new MacBoo,k the first iPad sync took a while and i had to set up a few things again), but i was amazed to see the TV Show cover art appearing.

Again, it is still missing the landscape episode artworks and I can cope with this for a while. Wondering whether adding an additional landscape artwork in the 'get info' - 'artwork' section would help sort this out? If anyone knows then let us know too.

And I am still missing artworks from my Home Videos that do not have landscape artwork (such a pain to have to re-do all these too if that's the case!)

I hope this helps someone else! And I'm sorry that the process takes a long time.

so I just downloaded and updated and all the pics disappeared.....my kids can't read so this is a BIG problem as they rely on the picture.

I can confirm that changing the picture size to 999w x 704h fixed the issue! We did a test on one movie picture which worked so now I just have to find the time to do all of them. Perhaps the update just included different display parameters.
