iPhone 5 ios 8 bluetooth issues with BMW

Hi,

I just upgraded my iphone 5 to IOS 8. When my phone connects to my 2014 BMW via bluetooth, the dashboard screen displays a call is being made to myself,

but the iphone doesn't show a call is being made. I tried hanging up using the button on my BMW, but it doesn't work. After at least 20 seconds, the call is disconnected.

My friend has similar issue. He called me this morning and it's exactly what I encountered and his car is also BMW that he got it a day before. It happened to him when he upgraded to IOS8.

Please help.

Regards,

CaptJohn

I actually didn't want to go down the resetting settings route because there has been a bug where doing so would reset your iCloud documents and erase them forever as some people have been unfortunate to have witnessed. I just honestly turned a blind eye until this morning when I updated my 6 to iOS 8.1 beta 1 (developer beta) and I noticed that the whole Bluetooth issue I was plagued with all the way up until 8.0.2 is gone as I can now go into the active call section again in the iDrive system and my iPhone 6 is no longer finicky with the iDrive Bluetooth system anymore.

Only issue with this is of course you "need" developer privilege to get on the 8.1 beta in the first place but I'm glad I did so as I didn't have to restore anything and it was a nice little surprise to see things working back in order on my LCI '13 X5.

Thanks very much for all this information. I must say that after having iPhone's for 4 years now, I've never had to perform a "Reset all Settings" before. To the general public this sounds like a very scary thing as it sounds like a factory reset which I realize now it is not. That did solve my problem so I"m very appreciative of the extra details you provided! 🙂

Just in case it was just me, I asked 2 other co-workers whom have iPhone's themselves or in their households what they would expect "Reset all Settings" to accomplish and they both responded immediately that it was a factory reset. Maybe this is because we are all career IT folks where that description would normally be a lot more destructive.

My advice to Apple: If you are going to have an new O/S or an upgrade that depends upon the users to actively choose this option, renamed it to "Reset all Preferences" to avoid scaring people away from choosing it!

I think that is the point though. As you say, you have never had to use this feature before and typically you never would have. You don't want people just randomly doing this and then complaining to Apple that they lost all their settings - quite often a user will only use this option when Apple support request them to do so.

People may be scared to use it and then ones that do, typically know what they are doing. At least either way, there is a prompt informing you that no data or content will be removed.

and, I may have spoken too soon. after a week (?) of working just fine and applying the fix described above, suddenly audio started cutting out, and I lost the ability to make a call (signal bars flashing again), even though the bluetooth was connected and I had a strong signal on the phone. I haven't performed the 'reset all settings' process again yet, as I'm reluctant to have to go through customized everything again, but that may be the only course of action.

Sigh...

I read the release notes in the 8.1 beta and there's no reference to fixing bluetooth problems. No discussion of that anywhere sadly...

Nor have I read of any reference to the bluetooth issue being solved by the 8.1 beta but I am solely basing it on experience with my own iPhone running the 8.1 software.

It isn't just an issue with BMW as I've heard issues with it ranging from Honda to Lincoln. Issue certainly is on the BT stack side on Apple's end.

OK, sooooooo.....I did the unpair/soft reset, and it worked! Great! Right? Well it worked...for a while. Eventually it reverted back to having issues. I unpaired/soft reset again, and it worked...again. Great! But now this morning, it once again has reverted. So now this is the third time I'having to unpair/soft reset. This is getting increasingly annoying! I will avoid a full reset at almost all costs. I don't want to have to reset all my wi-fi passwords, because I don't have them for most of the places I use them. I set it once, and forgot them, specifically so I wouldn't have to remember them.
