Welcome to the brave new world of computers in your pocket: all smartphones have crappy battery life, and are now loaded with features and bloat ware you don't need. Either learn to establish what features you want to keep, and turn off those you don't, or remain a user who gets frustrated trying to drive what is frankly still the best designed mobile OS for normal people.
Android is no better for battery life. The top end devices even need antivirus, which uses even more battery keeping malware at bay.
IF you want a phone with battery life, don't own a smartphone. I've turned off all the zooming effects, background app refresh etc as a matter of course. The less things your phone does while you're not using it, the longer the battery lasts.
Unless you're about to succeed Jony Ive as designer, I suggest you learn to put up with the learning curve associated with end-user experience on aging and bloating OSs. it's the only choice you have apart from regressing to a feature phone.
and btw I fully believe and understand those having exceptional battery issues with their devices post ios 8 upgrade. I hope you all find the solutions you seek!
