Iphone 6 and Ford Sync Bluetooth Does Not Work

Brand new iPhone 6 paired with My Ford Sync in a 2014 Escape.

Bad news, the bluetooth phone features simply do not work. You can initiate a call form the Sync and the phone will dial and connect, but 5 seconds into the call the bluetooth disconnects the phone audio and returns you to your radio or whatever source you were listening to.

The call appears to remain active on the iPhone but you can't access it.

Sure hope Apple or Microsoft/Ford step up to fix this soon it is a real show stopper.

Nothing like in the field beta testing.

Here's what I did after upgrading to iOS 8.02 on iPhone 6.

Backup iPhone to iTunes, you'll need this later.

Reboot Sync system (master reset), just in case. Since, you had to do it the other day, you should loose much data.

Do a reset on iPhone. I used the one in settings for Erase all data and settings.

Bring up iPhone standalone, just answering the questions, until operational.

Pair with Sync. Make sure the last pairing has been deleted from Sync.

From there, verified that the system would make and receive calls of at least a minute or two. Mine worked.

Applied the last back up from iTunes that had iOS 8.02 already installed.

Remove the bluetooth pair on the Sync and iPhone.

Reboot the iPhone, precaution.

Pair the Sync and iPhone

Verify calls can be made.

In my case it is working.

Thanks for all the ideas to fix this Sync problem; still bothers me that with a new product either Ford or Apple has dropped the ball. I have my car in a Ford dealer today for service & apparently there is MFT update I don't have installed. They are doing this as part of my service today, so I will see if that helps. FYI--this dealership said I was the first person telling them about this issue & there doesn't appear to be any special bulletins from Ford about issues. SO, pls.in addition to telling Apple, also tell Ford and/or your local Ford dealer about it. When I pick up my car today, I will see if the Sync works & if not will try the ideas presented here....Thanks everyone

This is all over the Ford boards as well. Ever since iPhone 5 came out Sync has had issues. Especially texting, which still doesn't work. iPhone 6 is no exception.

The last update from Ford was Oct 2013 (Gen2 - V3.6.2). They seem to come out about every year.

Apple just needs to come up with a drop in replacement that uses the iPhone for all the features. Would perform much better. The current MFT is overloaded. I crash it at least once a month from navigation issues, which is at least two years outdated as well.

I guess that I'm in the same boat as everyone else. New iPhone 6 will PAIR with SYNC but the SYNC services are non functional. The most annoying services that will not work are:

- Hands free calling

- Listening to Bluetooth music

I did call the SYNC team but the time spent with them was almost a complete waste of time. Their entire approach is the issue resides in your phone and after following ALL of their attempts to correct their only answer was to call Apple to see if they can help you with their problem.

BTW I have a 2013 Ford Edge Sport with the latest SYNC software installed.

Truly annoyed with SYNC at this time.

Almost had it! Thanks to pln4esc plan on pg. 2. I had it working until I restored my iphone from itunes. I think the problem is the name on my phone vs. the name that shows up on MTF for my phone. I don't understand why these 2 would be different. I changed the name of my phone on my actual cell to the one that shows up on MFTouch. I will double check what ITunes has as the name of my phone. I wonder if these issues are a result of me trying to transfer info from old iphone myself. I've always taken it to an AT&T store when I've switched phones, but this time tried the app from AT& T. Too fed up to mess with it anymore today, but feel like Apple and/or Ford should have had this in place before releasing iphone 6....

Here's the plan that worked until I restored Itunes backup to my phone, which I'm sure has something to do with the name of the phone. This seems the most promising though thanks to pln4esc

Having same issue with my 2013 Ford Explorer, Iphone 6 with IOS 8.02.

I can get the phone to connect and sync but the hands free phone does not work.

If I remove and re-add the phone, I can get it to work for a little bit but once turn off the car and try and let it reconnect, it seems to think it is in a Conference Call. I can't end the call. I have to turn off the bluetooth to hear the radio.

I have done a master reset of my sync system, removed and re-added the phone, changed the name of the phone, tried all the tricks so far without any success.

The bluetooth seems to be communicating with the car and causing it to get in a state when it connects.

Anyone else having the same issues?

Switzma, I had the same symptoms...how many devices do you see in your bluetooth settings? In my case, since my family shared the same iCloud account, my wife, daughter and son's phones were showing as bluetooth devices on my iPhone and I could not remove (forget this device).

I assumed it was because we shared the same iCloud account and I also assumed that maybe those devices listed as Bluetooth connections was preventing my connection to SYNC. I left the shared iCloud account and created my own (I no longer saw the other phones as Bluetooth devices). I then removed the SYNC Bluetooth device in the phone, deleted the phone from SYNC and re-paired and it has been working fine since.

Not sure this is your issue but may be worth a shot. Also under "settings" and "handoff & Suggested Apps", I turned-off the "handoff" setting. When my daughter would call me, my wife's and son's phone would also ring until I turned that off.

I still do have one minor issue, when I have my phone connected to USB and Bluetooth and use the map app on the phone for directions, I do hear the turn-by-turn directions through the car's Bluetooth connection, but each time the lady speaks to indicate a turn is approaching or to make a turn, the car thinks I am in a phone call, and when the lady stops talking, the car audio says "call disconnected". Lol

I only had 1 bluetooth device.

I will try and turn off the handoff. Maybe that is causing a problem.

Weird is my car thinks I am on a conference call when I get in and start it up.

It won't let me hang up the call and only way to get the radio to work is to turn off bluetooth.

Maybe the hand off is causing the problem?

Key item: if the backup you put back on the phone, was not of the same IOS you are using, then you will need to start from scratch, the backup will recreate the issues.

On new phone, had to start from ground zero and rebuild. When IOS 8.02 came out, I updated and make backup after the update. Reset the phone to nothing made all the connections with Sync (make sure you set the phone name to what it will be), then restore from that last backup.

Phone is paired and working great since.

They say this is fixed in 8.1, but I am betting they have not fully tested this. Apple should send us all devices to test and see if it is really fixed.

Just to note, I have 8 bluetooth devices in the phone, multiple computers, headset, speaker and such. That has not had an impact. They are all there and working. It's all about having a clean build / rebuild. From my experience, 5 iPhones, out of the box, do not have the issues, it's only if a backup was restored, again, my experience.

I believe I have the answer to this situation. It is working for me now. Like most of us probably, when I backed up my previous phone it was named the same thing that my new phone is. (Although it is a completely different device. It doesn't matter that I deleted out my previous phone from sync and re-paired it. Apple still thought of my old phone and my new phone as having the same name. If you login to your iCloud account and select 'find my iPhone' you will see a list of all your devices (including your previous phone with the same name). If you delete your previous phone, it removes the ambiguity between the two different devices with the same name so the Bluetooth 'marriage' between Apple and Sync can work without confusion about which device is being connected. On a side-note I also downloaded the new Sync software and install that using a flash drive and it works a lot better and has near options. I would advise that also.

I tried re-naming my phone and redoing the connection which would work for 1 time. Seems to stop working after using it one time.

Where do you get the update for Sync? My dealer has indicated it is up to date as much as possible.

Oct 2, 2014 9:17 PM in response to frankfromdoylestown

Thanks plan4esc and opinionated1--I deleted old iphone from icloud, so will see if that does the trick. I can't try it until this weekend due to work, but will check back in over the weekend. Thanks again for the help!

@switzma---you can check either your Ford dealer or Syncmyride.com to check if you have the latest Sync version......I just had mine at the dealer for service & they told me there was an update I didn't have installed.......

The Sync representative I spoke with said there was a new update uploaded last Friday (presumably to incorporate more iPhon compatibility). The update is much nicer that the version I had before (mine was 2 versions behind) and calls my iPhone 'iPhone' instead of 'Bluetooth stereo' in the selector now and the touch interface is a LOT more responsive but as I said before, what corrects this issue is to decommission your old phone off of iCloud so 'find my phone' isn't tracking two different devices with the same name. The Bluetooth relationship between the phone and car is one of equal merit. Both Apple and Sync has to agree on what two things are joining and as long as you have two iPhones that 'find my iPhone' is tracking, it will refuse to work properly. It's a gps tracking issue.
