Iphone 6 and Ford Sync Bluetooth Does Not Work

Brand new iPhone 6 paired with My Ford Sync in a 2014 Escape.

Bad news, the bluetooth phone features simply do not work. You can initiate a call form the Sync and the phone will dial and connect, but 5 seconds into the call the bluetooth disconnects the phone audio and returns you to your radio or whatever source you were listening to.

The call appears to remain active on the iPhone but you can't access it.

Sure hope Apple or Microsoft/Ford step up to fix this soon it is a real show stopper.

Nothing like in the field beta testing.

I guess I'll wait until the 16th to see if there is an update to help with this. Pretty Cr***y that Apple says "not their problem". Even if that were true, you would think they would work with Ford to try to get it resolved. I'm almost afraid to try another IOS 8 release as it might just screw up my bluetooth again. I never purchased the 5s, & really don't want to go back to my 4s at this point.

What is also strange is that solutions for some people work for some but not others...

You must log into icloud if you upgraded your phone from a previous iPhone and go to 'find my iPhone'. Select your previous phone in the list off devices it is tracking and tell it to delete the device. Part of the process of backing up your old data on your previous phone and migrating it to the new 6 or 6+ is to name the new device with the same name (as the old device). It was a direct copy (including the device name). The antitheft tracker on your phone is confused because is tracking two different items with the same name. Once you do this and delete the previous paring and re-pair, all your issues will go away.

I have finally gotten my iPhone 6 working with Ford SYNC, the process (for me) was not desirable but at least I'm functional for now.

iPhone 6, 64GB memory, iOS 8.0.2

I used the following process:

  1. If you have AppleID 2-Step verification activated make sure you have your Rescue Key available.
  2. Made sure "Find My iPhone" was disabled.
  3. Did a firmware restore using iTunes. Hold the Power Off button until you see an iTunes logo. Connect you phone to your computer with iTunes running and follow the instructions.
  4. Setup the phone but BE SURE you setup as a New Phone and DO NOT use iCloud Backup, or iTunes Backup to restore your applications and settings
  5. Once your phone is setup get in your car to pair the iPhone with Ford SYNC.

The procedure worked for me, although painful because I had to download all my applications individually, enter a bunch of application passwords which all told took about 4 hours in my case. Taking the positive view however, my iPhone 6 is now happily working with Ford SYNC in my 2013 Edge Sport for both hands free calling and for bluetooth music.

Finally a happy camper.

If you run a clean iPhone and don't add any apps, it seems to work great.

But, we have the phone for other reasons. Mine lasted about 2 weeks of great connectivity. Then one day, lost the bluetooth. So tired of going through these steps.

Placed iPhone 5 into service, just to make calls and get iMessage. Thankfully, you can assign two phone numbers to iMessage.

If iOS 8.1 doesn't fix the issue, bye bye iPhone 6, hello Samsung 5S. Samsung works flawlessly, even has outgoing text that works.

Get your act together Apple!

I am certain I am NOT the only one feeling this way.

I have to agree. So far mine is working fine, but it's only been a week. Today however, in my car, connected to bluetooth, when a call came in, I had to manually press the bluetooth button on the iphone6 before the sound would come through the speakers. Fortunately, I was stopped so it was easy to do. On the other hand, don't think I should HAVE to do that as it's bluetooth.

I was looking at the Samsung 5s before getting the iphone & if I begin having more problems, will ditch the iphone as well.....

My Iphone 6 Plus and the 2008 Ford Escape still does not answer incoming calls correctly although most things like streaming Internet audio via the phone to the Ford works fine. Today I noticed when I get incoming call and the the phone is ringing, MY NUMBER is displayed on the dashboard NOT the actually number of the incoming call . I'm not sure what this really means but my number was also displayed this way with my old Iphone 5 when I did things like activate Siri in the car.

Ok, my new iPhone 6 will not pair. Myford sync doesn't find the phone. I backed up my 4s before I turned it in & restored the back up to the new phone. I did change the name of the phone thinking that might help. It didn't. I initially tried to pair before updating software to 8.0.2. I tried again after updating to 8.0.2. Still does not find the phone & pair. I'm not sure what to do next. Someone suggested completely resetting the phone, but I don't want to do that unless it's a definite fix.

This suggestion is what got me on the right path. You need to reset the Sync in your car and if you used iCloud for any backups, go in & delete your old phone from iCloud as well. Yes, it takes a bit of time & some trial & error. Also, if you Erase all Settings from your new iphone, be sure once you start it up again that the name of the phone is the same as the name of the phone on iTunes.

This was from pln4esc on pg. 2

Here's what I did after upgrading to iOS 8.02 on iPhone 6.

Backup iPhone to iTunes, you'll need this later.

Reboot Sync system (master reset), just in case. Since, you had to do it the other day, you should loose much data.

Do a reset on iPhone. I used the one in settings for Erase all data and settings.

Bring up iPhone standalone, just answering the questions, until operational.

Pair with Sync. Make sure the last pairing has been deleted from Sync.

From there, verified that the system would make and receive calls of at least a minute or two. Mine worked.

Applied the last back up from iTunes that had iOS 8.02 already installed.

Remove the bluetooth pair on the Sync and iPhone.

Reboot the iPhone, precaution.

Pair the Sync and iPhone

Verify calls can be made.

In my case it is working.
