Iphone 6 and Ford Sync Bluetooth Does Not Work

Brand new iPhone 6 paired with My Ford Sync in a 2014 Escape.

Bad news, the bluetooth phone features simply do not work. You can initiate a call form the Sync and the phone will dial and connect, but 5 seconds into the call the bluetooth disconnects the phone audio and returns you to your radio or whatever source you were listening to.

The call appears to remain active on the iPhone but you can't access it.

Sure hope Apple or Microsoft/Ford step up to fix this soon it is a real show stopper.

Nothing like in the field beta testing.

I just completed the suggested steps after failing on several other suggested work arounds. Resetting both the phone and the sync did allow me to pair my iPhone 6. It works now but it is temperamental. I can generally receive and answer and place calls but other times (I had my wife call me) the phone shoes no indications that someone is calling either on the phone or on sync and the call goes to voice mail without me knowing that anyone is trying to call. I've deleted and added the phone a couple of times and it still seems to be periodically working. I'm thinking that all of this will not be solved completely until Apple comes out with ios 8.1 (hopefully). For now, I'm leaving my wife's iPhone 5 identified as the favorite when we are both in the car as her phone seems to work fine.

After a frustrating weekend of resetting phones and Sync and trying various combinations of backups and such. I have one that has worked for a whole day again.

Reset the iPhone, don't log into iCloud, don't add any apps that are NOT iOS 8 compatible, add your email (through email, not iCloud) and select contacts only, do not give the phone a new name, pair it.

Every other combination, seems to work for a while then just stops working.

I have a friend with the beta of 8.1, if the release code is the same as late last week they have, it won't solve this issue.

Don't worry, in three more days, we get to start this all over again. Praying for a miracle. C'mon Steve, help them out!!

I have the exact same issue. Never had a single problem with iOS 8 on my 5 but now that I have the 6 I cannot make a successful call nor can I answer one. As soon as the phone connection is made the call is dropped and sent back to my 6 where I can have the conversation once I switch audio sources. I called SYNC support and did all of the troubleshooting; reset iPhone, did master reset with SYNC, repaired it all successfully but still no good as far as establishing a phone call. The SYNC support rep said I will have to wait until SYNC releases a software update to work with the new iPhones.

I even did an experiment with a variety of iPhones, since my family is an Apple family and we have everything from the 6+ on down to the 4. All phones work fine except the 6 and 6+.

I suspect we all may be waiting a long time for a Sync update. Hopefully the iOS update to 8.1 will solve our problems. In the meantime, my iPhone 6 is now working on my 2011 Explorer after following earlier reported steps to pair successfully. Here are the steps I followed (I copied these steps from a previous posting, I did not author them):

Backup iPhone to iTunes, you'll need this later.

Reboot Sync system (master reset), just in case. Since, you had to do it the other day, you should loose much data.

Do a reset on iPhone. I used the one in settings for Erase all data and settings.

Bring up iPhone standalone, just answering the questions, until operational.

Pair with Sync. Make sure the last pairing has been deleted from Sync.

From there, verified that the system would make and receive calls of at least a minute or two. Mine worked.

Applied the last back up from iTunes that had iOS 8.02 already installed.

Remove the bluetooth pair on the Sync and iPhone.

Reboot the iPhone, precaution.

Pair the Sync and iPhone

Verify calls can be made.

Good luck!

The post above is what I did as well. I also made sure my phone name was the same on my iphone as well as iTunes. I don't put it as my favorite phone on SYNC either. If you do all these steps, try unpairing the phone form SYNC, then on your bluetooth select "Forget this device", turn bluetooth off & then on again. Try SYNC again. I know it took me several attempts before I could get mine working so I could make & receive calls.....

Hope I'm posting in the right place! I have a iPhone 6 plus and a 2013 Ford Expedition with Ford Sync. I could play Bluetooth music, but I couldn't make or receive calls. I searched online for a solution, but nothing worked. What I ended up doing, was changing the name of my iPhone 6 to something different than my iPhone 5. I deleted all the devices off my Sync and forgot devices on my iPhone. It works fine now! Yay! I hope this works for someone else too!

I know that I first started out stating that the iPHONE 6 worked on two of my cars (M Series Mercedes and Wrangler) and that the Ford Fusion 2015 was the only problem but things have changed. Now the iPHONE6 does not work on any of my cars. Each however present different and unique symptom. I know. Interesting. An engineer/technical person from Sprint helped me through resetting my new iPHONE 6 to factory settings this afternoon and backed everything up to iCLOUD and then restored the iPONE 6. After all that I have the same symptoms with each car. IMPORTANT NOTE> the iPHONE 6 also does not work on the other Ford Fusion 2015 that we have. All cars work well with the iPHONE 5C, 5S, Samsung, and other cell phones. This problem will have to be ran up the flagpole at APPLE. APPLE indeed has a problem with their new iPHONE 6.

iPhone 6 is the worst offender. The 5 has issues as well if on iOS 8.x. As apps have been updated to iOS 8, things got worse. An out of the box iPhone 6 with a new iCloud account, will work, at least for a while. At some point, it will just get lost and will not call out anymore. With the iPhone 5, and iOS 8, it is much more stable.

This issue is NOT isolated to Sync, or other automotive interfaces, but bluetooth as a whole. The basic bluetooth seem to get by, the more complex the bluetooth the more issues that arise or just don't work.

I think they realize there is an issue, otherwise 8.1 would have been released yesterday with OS X 10.10.

My Iphone 6 just started working over the weekend with bluetooth and my Ford Explorer 2013 and hands free calling. I didn't do anything. Just testing it out and for some reason it started to work.
