So here’s my story…
2013 Ford Edge with SYNC and MyFordTouch.
MFT is updated to: Gen2 - V3.6.2 and was applied Sep 28, 2013.
I was using an iPhone 5 for the past year with virtually ZERO problems.
- Phone calls worked (via Bluetooth)
- Bluetooth audio (music and podcasts) worked
- I even bought an Automatic and its “Siri through SYNC" was working.
Then I “upgraded” my iPhone 5 to iOS 8.0. From that moment, bluetooth audio stopped working. NO music or podcasts through bluetooth. Using the MFT touchscreen, I could CONTROL the playback of audio (paly/pause, etc) but no audio would come through the system. I cannot remember if phone calling or “Siri through SYNC” ceased to work as I didn’t pay much attention to them.
Shortly thereafter, I traded in the iPhone 5 for an iPhone 6 with iOS 8.0. Same problem. No Bluetooth audio!
I tried:
- Removing all Bluetooth devices from car and iPhone
- Master Reset of MFT while deleting “SYNC” Bluetooth profile from phone.
- Master Reset of MFT while “Resetting Network Settings” on phone.
- Hard Reboots of iPhone in conjunction with the above acts.
- Renaming iPhone with simple name.
- Multiple hard reboots of the iPhone.
- All of the above in multiple combinations.
- No other iPhone in “Find My Phone” on iCloud except this one.
Bluetooth audio still would not work!
Then iOS 8.1 came out and I installed it on the iPhone hoping for a fix. STILL NO BLUETOOTH AUDIO!
I have repeated the above steps since 8.1. Multiple times. Still no Bluetooth audio.
I was (and still am) able to receive incoming calls, but sending outgoing calls by voice (button on steering wheel) is problematic at best.
The one factor I have not yet tested is the fact that when I bought the iPhone 6, i just did a full iCloud restore to the new iPhone from the previous iPhone 5 backup. It appears from the experiences of some on here that they believe that to be the issue.
As soon as I have time I plan to:
- remove All Bluetooth profiles from SYNC
- Master Reset MFT
- remove ALL Bluetooth profiles from iPhone
- Reset Network Settings of iPhone
- Completely erase iPhone
- Restore iPhone to factory 8.1 via iTunes on computer
- set up iPhone as a “New iPhone”
This will be a pain in the backside as I will have to re-download and re-organizes all the apps on my iPhone as well as re-enter all the application passwords and misc data. I hope it pays off.
There are folks out in the tech world that believe starting the iPhone from a “clean install” will lead to better battery life vs. a restore from a backup. There are also reports of Bluetooth profiles “sticking” in the memory of iPhones even after you manually “Forget” the device and the suggestion is multiple hard reboots of the iPhone.
As I see it now, the only solution is the clean install. If for no other reason than to eliminate blame from apps and settings within the iPhone.
