search Messages iOS8 on iPhone 5s not working right

Go to languages and region again and make sure preffered language is English. If Spanish is there, delete it.

Also, on general, go to keyboard, and make sure you didn't install a Spanish keyboard by mistake.

Autocorrect working for a different language means that you are typing with that language's keyboard. Just delete the spanish one and you'll be good.

The frustrating thing for me is that no matter how many times I change language and get it working, the fix just reverts itself a few hours later.

But nothing doing there. A couple of people seem to have gotten it fixed with some of the suggestions here - change Language back and forth or Wipe and Restore from backup. I have not done the Wipe/Restore, but some of the posts here indicate that it reverts back to the problem after awhile. So I'm hesitant to waste time there. I've done numerous Language back&forth changes, even choosing different languages. I have an iPhone 6.

Today, I was hoping 8.0.2 would address the problem. But no. I can only cuss and cuss...

Let's team up on every ******* thread possible to bring this to the media's attention. This is the only problem I've had from the git-go on iOS 8. Don't know what all that other crap 8.0.2 supposedly fixed, but this is one big one and the media is not paying doodly squat to expose this. For the first time, I am so ****** at Apple for all of its idioticness on this iOS 8 / iPhone 6 roll-out. I can only imagine what kind of incompetencies lie with Yosemite. Try turning Spotlight search off (untick all boxes). Then try searching your messages. If it works, you can turn Spotlight back on again. This worked for me and so far it seems permanent. :-) Good luck!

PS: I saw some disturbing threads about 8.0.2 problems when installing it. I would wait with the update... 😕

I have tried switching languages, turning spotlight on and off on messages, and other functions…still doesn't work. I still can't search of messages that are stored prior to the update to iOS 8

UUpdate to 8.0.2 and then toggle imessages off and on again. Works for me now. Tried the language thing first but that didn't work

Guys, after waiting in vain for an immediate remedy from Apple, I decided to do what some others did here. I turned iCloud Backup on, and proceeded to backup my 5s (the free 5gb isn't enough, but I'm subscribed to the 200GB plan). After the backup was complete, I erased all settings and contents on the iPhone via the settings menu. Afterwards, I set the phone to restore from the newly made iCloud backup. About 4 minutes later, my 5s rebooted with all settings intact. I gave the phone a few minutes to start indexing the messages, and tried searching. I can confirm that this method works. Message search works perfectly once again. I don't know if doing an iTunes manual backup and restore will work, but I assume it should, too.

The exact same thing happened to my wife's 5s. Message search failed to work properly after the 8.0 update. I restored her iCloud backup to a new iPhone 6, and there were no message search problems with the new iPhone as well.

Same problems for me. I've done languages changes, updated to 8.0.2, iMessage on/off, and multiple times, but still no luck. I've gotten it to work temporarily, but then it will suddenly stop searching shortly after.

Hello, same issue here on my iPhone 5S running under 8.02.

i have tried all solutions:

- change languages

- tun off/on the spotlight indexation

- reinstall the iPhone.

Nothing works.

Has anyone received news from Apple on this issue?

After a few days of having no problems with message search, my problem of not being able to search most (not all) texts has suddenly resurfaced. This is still the case after having restored a totally clean 5s several days earlier from an iCloud backup. No ideas left here other than to hope Apple delivers a fix.
