Syncing Apps to iPhone 6 / 6 Plus Stuck

I just got an iPhone 6 Plus this morning on launch day. I backed up my iPhone 5S and then hooked my 6 Plus in and restored from backup. After it was done restoring from backup and starting syncing all my apps, pictures, etc., to my 6 Plus, it gets stuck on the part where its syncing apps. It hangs after the first app or 2 leaving you hopelessly stuck at "Copying 1/102 Apps". I have tried simply canceling the sync by clicking the X under devices in iTunes. Unfortunately, this will pop up a window under iTunes that says something to the effect of "Completing Sync" and there it hangs endlessly, forcing you to force quit out of iTunes and try again. But even after trying again, it will still get stuck after 2 or 3 apps.

Is anyone else having this issue? Found a fix to this? Please let me know.

Yes. My wife's iPhone 6 had absolutely no problems at all, but mine ran into this sync issue. But then again, her phone didn't have very much on it, and mine had all the photos, music, etc., and for whatever reason just wouldn't sync. But the method I used in that previous post (at 10:17am) solved this instantly and the problem never returned. Hopefully, your phone won't even have an issues as I think the occurrences must be very rare, otherwise this thread would be a mile long.

My iPhone 6 is working finally and most everything appears OK, but I have what is perhaps a dumb question.

In iTunes Music on my phone, all of the files in my Music library appear, but every one must be downloaded from the Cloud before it will play, even if I listened to the file just minutes before I began the upgrade from iPhone 5s to 6.

Is that how it is suppose to work? Shouldn't the music files that were "on" my old phone transferred to the 6?

That was my first clue that the restore/sync didn't work correctly. If you have music on your mac, but it's showing clouds next to each song, it's not complete/done. Try syncing a few times. It not only took a while to copy everything over, but to also "activate" them all on the phone - meaning it showed stop symbols next to many songs that were not complete yet. The mac was done syncing the phone, but the phone still showed the sync circles. I left it for a few hours and it finally "activated" all of them.

The answer to the synch problem buried on the Apple site.

Check out these instructions: Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device

You're suppose to upgrade your old iPhone to iOS 8 first, back it up in iTunes, and THEN you can activate your new iPhone 6 and back your content onto it. (I swear this wasn't true in the past with my other iPhones.)

Wouldn't it have been helpful if Apple had a warning of some kind about this? Or maybe advertised this link?

So I spoke to a Sr Specialist and if you have Windows you just roll back your version of iTunes. If you are like me and have a Mac this is what I had to figure out on my own. Simply restore the phone to factory settings (let it reboot and DO NOT TOUCH IT at all - even slide to unlock) and then restore from backup but don't touch the phone at all (not even after it re boots - DO NOT TOUCH the phone no matter how tempted you are) - simply leave it be to sync and wait a few hours and voila everything is as it should be.

I found that when you sign into iCloud is as the phone is restored it activates iTunes Match and that just screws with syncing. So Restore to factoty (DO NOT touch phone) then restore from Backup (DO NOT touch phone) until complete.

this worked on both my iPhone 6's after a day and half of struggling!

Good luck all

"found that when you sign into iCloud is as the phone is restored it activates iTunes Match and that just screws with syncing."

This is the problem I think. Ran into issues with my 6 plus Friday. Tonight, trying to migrate my wife's 5 to my old 5S, same issue with stalled sync while loading apps.

I killed the sync, ran iTunes Match which took about 5 minutes. Seems like everything is syncing fine now.

Count me in as one of the ones having sync problems. I'm using an iPhone 6 128GB and iOS 8 with a Mac Pro with 10.9.5 and iTunes 11.4. After trying for most of the last two days to get my music, videos, and pictures on my new iPhone, and trying just about everything that might have worked for other people, I've given up for the time being. If there's no fix in the next few days and it's still not working right, I'll be returning my iPhone 6.

Hi, i think you should take 2 things into consideration:

  1. First, whether the storage of your old iPhone 5s is bigger than that of your iPhone 6. If it is, I think restoring iPhone 5s backup to your iPhone 6 would take so much space on your iPhone 6, thus in result will cause some transfer issue;
  2. Second, the apps you're transferring to iPhone 6 are compatible with iOS 8 on iPhone 6 or not. If not, for sure, problems will come out.

I have also 2 suggestions for you as to copy data from iPhone 5S to iPhone 6:

  1. Don't restore everything from your old iPhone 5s to your iPhone 6. Some of the settings or apps will become useless on iPhone 6. You can try a tool, like MobileTrans, to transfer data from the old phone to your new iPhone 6 selectively.
  2. To get apps to your iPhone 6, you can connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi > go to the App Store > from the purchased area, download the apps to your iPhone. Before download any app, please make sure it is compatible with iOS 8. If not, wait for the update and download the latest version later.
