iPhone 6/iOS 8 Portrait Rotation Lock

Hey All,

Just got my iPhone 6 today, and the first thing I noticed was that the screen will not rotate. I tried the usual by going to the control center, but the Portrait Rotation Lock was already in a disabled state. I toggled on and then back off, still no luck. Tried powering down and back on, still no luck.

Is there something obvious I'm missing?

It isn't as simple as the rotation lock icon. The camera is supposed to rotate for correct picture taking, regardless of rotation lock being enabled. I live with rotation lock enabled, and take a couple dozen photos a day. Until my iPhone 6 and iOS 8 They always worked with correct rotation. Now, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Bug for sure...

Hi Paul, I did this over a week ago and I haven't had any issues since, not one. Try it and let me know if it helps.

Did some more testing and what has worked thus far is this: turn on reduce motion in accessibility and do a restart (hold home button and power button until phone restarts). Go back to accessibility and make sure reduce motion is still in the "on" position. Been working for almost a whole day.

Had this issue on my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.0.2. The temporary fix for me was to power cycle the phone although after time it would stop rotating again. The next temporary fix was mentioned earlier to disable Reachability.

I did a full restore and it has been 2 days without any issues nor having to disable Reachability. (Still rather slow compared to the rotation on iPhone 5s running iOS 7). Full restore took me close to 4 hours due to the amount of stuff I've accumulated since iPhone 3G days. Ugh

Disabling Reachability fixed the problem for me (at least temporarily). Display re-orientation is such a basic smartphone feature, it's amazing that Apple broke it. To disable Reachability go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Reachability (in the Interaction section).

PS: I also enabled Reduce Motion (also in Accessibility), but I don't think this had any effect.
