iPhone 6 not working with Exchange settings

iPhone 5 with iOS8 Mail/Contacts/Calendar works fine with my Exchange mail settings.

iPhone 6 Plus with iOS8 Mail/Contacts/Calendar doesnt work at all with the same exact Exchange mail settings. It shows that it successfully adds the account (the little tick marks) but nothing syncs from Exchange.

Try deleting the email account and re-adding it, but when adding the new one, don't select "Exchange" for the type of account... select "Other" and then manually enter all the Exchange settings. It worked like a charm for me. I had this issue come up with both a 5s and a new 6+ right after they updated to 8.0.2. Hopefully it will work for you, too.

As I have recently found out, you are absolutely right... It did work while our employees were within our network, but as soon as they left, it stopped working again, and even when it was working, things weren't syncing up, and there was no access to the Calendar either. A crippled solution I suppose, but slightly better than nothing. I hope Apple comes out with a real fix soon...

O.K, after a lot of research I have this working perfectly now with 20 iphone 6 devices that didn't work before.


This fixed my issue where the account would setup correctly and give all ticks as if it was going to work but then no mail, contacts or calendar entries would sync with the device.


Here goes:

On a Domain Controller, Click on Start/All Programs/Administrative Tools/Active Directory Users and Computers

Click on View and Select Advanced Features

Select a mailbox that isn’t working with Active Sync, double click on the account, Select the Security Tab and then the Advanced Button.

Select Exchange Servers, and tick the Include inheritable permissions toggle then Apply and OK.

Now reboot your iphone and it should work fine 😉

We saw a variety of issues on some IPhones and none on others when we first stated setting them up. Here are some of the solutions and best practices we have found.


1) Initial IPhone setups should be done over LTE data connections with local wireless turned off on the phone.

2) Check Exchange to ensure less than 10 devices are registered to the user having the issue (We only allow 2). Delete these devices as needed but pay careful attention to the last sync date. It is wise to ask how many external devices are used by the user to access email (IPads, android tablets, etc. before getting delete happy).

3) If a DCS (Distributed Cloud Security, like Cloudeflare) is used make sure a friendly outside DNS name is set up to bypass ALL your DCS rules entirely for the external OWA address. Use that DNS name in configuring the IPhone server name.

4) Ensure you trust the security certificate of your OWA server on the IPhone especially if you have self issued a security certificate ( like SBS, Small business Servers). We have seen instances that a phone configuration will not prompt for this. Changing the server to the actual IP address of the target server and then back to the DNS name will cause the trust prompt to happen if it mysteriously does not occur on you first configuration.

5) In the instance that you receive username and password not valid and you have verified you have the correct information configured in the IPhone by logging into OWA or a network resource, then reset the password on your server/domain to the same password attempted... We saw this issue occur mostly if passwords were set never to expire in the cases of "executive privilege" for some mystical reason.

6) On rare occasions you may have to rebuild the IPhone mail profile after attempting #5.

7) Turn local wireless back on in the IPhone after a successful configuration.


This works universally for us... Hope it helps you!

I am driving myself insane with this same issue. Using my new iPhone 6+ I go to set myself up on my new company exchange server and begin managing the box. Everything works fine without issue.


I go to load the exchange setup on my phone and nothing.... Choose Exchange, takes my credentials and checkmarks across the board. Go to email? Nothing. Calendars? Doesn't even list it.


It's as if Activesync completely broke for Exchange with this release. Onward to continue reading this thread to page 3. My new Note 4 is on the way for a reason Apple.... After converting 300 people over to Apple devices, I am feeling the burn now. Thanks....

First of all, thanks everyone for chiming in on various solutions. I bumped into this issue after I activated my new iPhone 6. I've tried various methods suggested in this post and here is my finding.


Before I describe my test results, I would like to point out to all readers that there are two different type of Google accounts here.


1. Free Gmail account

2. Business Gmail account


So, depending on which account you have, the solutions suggested in this discussion thread may or may not apply to you. As for my case, I have the free Gmail account. In the past, I could setup my Gmail account on my iPhone 5 using the Exchange server. This is a great offering by Google because my email, contacts and calendar will sync to my phone quickly and automatically. As soon as I activated my iPhone 6, I quickly setup my Gmail the same way that I have been setup over the past many years and nothing work. So, here is my result.


1. Resetting network did not solve my issue - I don't think this matter at all. Your phone needs to communicate to the Google Exchange server. So, it doesn't matter if it's using LTE network or WIFI as long as your phone can access the Internet.


2. It has nothing to do with your 2-step verification security feature either. Yes, if you enable this feature for your Gmail account, you'll need to go to https://security.google.com/settings/security/apppasswords to generate a new device password and use it instead of your normal Gmail password.


3. This is not Apple or iOS issue either.


4. The real answer to my issue is here: https://support.google.com/a/answer/2716936?hl=en. Basically, Google has decide to make the Exchange Sync service only to paid Business account starting January 30, 2013.


Does this mean you're out of luck, right? Not really...


Although you can't setup your Gmail as Exchange Sync Gmail account, you can still be able to setup it as "regular" Google mail account. Just pick Google option when setting up new Gmail account instead of Exchange. Once you entered the correct email address and password for your account, all your email, contacts and calendar will sync to your phone. The sync process may be slower than before.
