wifi issues with iphone 6

Hi All,

Is anyone facing the issues with the wifi on iphone 6? I was connected to wi-fi but after I restarted the router by powering off/on, I wasn't able to connect to the wifi until I restarted my phone. Also even after toggling the wifi on/off on my phone I couldn't see any wifi signals where as I am supposed to see atleast 10 signals. Can someone please tell the steps to resolve this issue? Is this an hardware or an software issue on the phone?

iI'm having the same issues iphone6plus connected to wifi fine I noticed it had dropped off yesterday went into settings an no networks were showing. Turn on and off wifi still nothing. Had to restate phone and then it worked. It's just done exactly the same again now so that's twice now. I have no issues with my iPhone 5s iPad air all on iOS 8 just my iPhone 6 plus.

Same issue here. Have a dual band 802.11n router with 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands. Have an iPhone 5, which is running 7.1.2, and could connect to both bands fine, and would usually stay on the 5.0Ghz band. Have an iPad Mini with Retina, which was running 7.1.2, but then upgraded to 8.0, and am able to connect to both bands with that fine as well. But, with my new iPhone 6, it will connect to the 5.0Ghz band initially, and then just drop it after a few minutes, and revert to LTE (won't switch over to the 2.4Ghz band, like all my other devices do). If I force it to the 2.4Ghz band, it will stay on it, but it won't autoconnect to the 5.0Ghz band once it's lost it, and if I try to manually connect to it, it just gives me an error saying "Can't connect to <network name>".

Considering that two other devices connect fine, and one of them is also running iOS 8.0, that leads me to believe its a hardware issue in the iPhone 6, not a software issue in iOS8. Unless it's a driver problem in iOS8 for the new 802.11ac wifi chip in the iPhone 6's.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you were experiencing these problems. Try resolving your issues with these steps:

(These steps applies to iOS 8)

Before doing these steps, it's recommended that you BACK UP your phone. Please refer to here for a tutorial on that, iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

-A: Reset your network settings on your iPhone:

WARNING: You will lose open webpages, including having to reenter passwords for already joined networks.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go down and select General
  3. Go down and select Reset
  4. Select Reset Network Settings
  5. Enter your pass code if you have one setup.
  6. Select Rest Network Settings
  7. You'll see a white screen and an Apple logo followed by a black loading screen, and again with a white screen and Apple logo. Once this finishes your phone will load normally.
  8. If your phone has a pass code unlock it.
  9. Go to Settings
  10. Select Wi-Fi
  11. See if you can find that network you'd like to join, then select it.
  12. If there is a password required, enter it.
  13. Hit Join

-B: Restart your iPhone:

WARNING: Close and save any important webpages or documents or you may lose them during this process.

  1. Press and hold down on the Sleep/Wake button for about 5-10 seconds.
  2. Slide your finger to the right on slide to power off
  3. Wait about 5-10 seconds or until the circle looking indicator stops moving.
  4. Press and hold down on Sleep/Wake button for about 5-10 seconds until you see the white background and an Apple logo.
  5. Enter in your pass code if there is one.
  6. Try reconnecting.

-C: Reset your iPhone to factory settings:

!!!WARNING: During this process you'll lose data that may include your contacts, applications, device settings and more.!!!

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go down to Reset
  3. Select Erase All Content and Settings. THIS WILL DELETE CONTENT THAT MAY BE IMPORTANT.
  4. Enter in your pass code if you have one.
  5. Select Erase iPhone.
  6. Follow the following instructions it'll show you.

These are some recommended steps I'd take to try and resolve your issues. If these issues do continue to arise, please don't hesitate to ask for assistance. 🙂

There another similar thread on this in the forums. Here's what people have claimed worked for them:

  • Resetting network settings or doing a full reset
  • Changing the security from WEP to WPA2 if you were using WEP
  • Switching to an Airport if you were using a different brand router
  • Switching to a different brand router if you were using an Airport
  • Taking it to the Apple Store Genius Bar and getting a replacement

Important to note that in every case, it appears someone else has tried the same thing or had different circumstance. For example, some people swear by switching from WEP to WPA2, but since I've always had WPA2 turned on, it can't be due to that. Taking your phone to the Genius Bar this weekend will almost certainly "reproduce" the slow Wifi and perhaps result in an exchange of your phone, since there are hundreds of people currently in the store connected to it's overburdened Wifi access points. Make sure the new phone is setup and works differently in the store if you take that approach.

Same issue here. My wife has the iPhone 6 and I have the iPhone 6 Plus. Both are not working on our home wifi. We've tried resetting our Network Settings and using either 2.4ghz or 5ghz - nothing has worked. Both phones will connect to our wifi, but once connected, they'll typically just not transmit any data so nothing happens. What's odd is that my old iPhone 5 and iPad Air (both upgraded to iOS 8) are working just fine with my home router, with no changes to their settings.

However, at my office, we use an Airport and my iPhone 6 Plus seems to be connecting and transmitting just fine. Would there be a specific setting that I'm missing on my home router?

I'm encountering the same issue with my iPhone 6. After some hours the wifi connection drops and can't be established until I reboot the phone or reset the network settings. But resetting the network settings results in rebooting the phone - so it doesn't fix anything I guess. When the wifi connection is lost the iPhone can't find any other networks. It's like no wifi networks available. Both 2.4 and 5Ghz bands are affected. Current wifi router: Asus RT-N66U.

I start to think this is a driver issue, not hardware related.

Add me to the list. iPhone 6 / 128GB / Verizon

I'm running a Netgear WNDR4500 - WPA2 router at home that worked flawlessly with my iPhone 5 and several other iOs devices in our home. I have the same random dropping of Wifi that once it occurs nothing short of restarting the phone will re-establish the wifi connection. I restored back to iOs 8 stock (setup as new phone) and it happened again within an hour of the restore.

I'm using the 5Ghz band. Gonna try using the 2.4 band when I get home. Read on another thread that may be a temporary workaround.

I have begun the fun with Apple Support in hopes of helping them work through this issue as quickly as possible.

This is my first Iphone and I am glad I'm not experiencing any of these. I have the Iphone6 and I'm just experiencing the battery drainage, but its like that in the beginning because of adjusting some of the setttings and such. I'll keep close watch on this thread since my wife is going to order hers soon in about a couple of weeks.

Have a follow up.... My issue seems to have stabilized. I unplugged my airport extreme and reconnected. Have been connected to 5ghz steadily now for going on over a day. I've transferred numerous large files (hd movies) with no issues and solid throughput. Not sure what to make of it and why that would have worked but I thought I'd share just in case it helps anyone else. iPhone 6, 128GB and AirPort Extreme 802.11ac.

I am also having this problem on an iPhone 6. Wifi drops while my phone is asleep and does not re-connect when I wake it up. The phone is also unable to find any networks. I have tried turning wifi off and then back on, turning Airplane mode on and then off, and have reset network settings. The only thing that would would seem to work was restarting the phone.

This morning when I noticed wifi had dropped, instead of restarting my phone, I put it to sleep, and when I came back to it a few minutes later, the phone re-connected to my wifi network and other networks were visible again. This has now happened twice this morning. Maybe it's an issue with the phone not waking up correctly??? Just an observation, hopefully Apple gets this fixed, I really like this phone otherwise.

Same problem here with Wifi connection dropping on iPhone 6.

Tried it on two different wireless networks, same problem on both now, in the beginning it connects fine and has fast speed but then gets lost.

Wifi discover networks just see's nothing once this bug shows up.

- turning wifi off/on does nothing

- turning airplane mode on/off does nothing

only fix is to cycle the phone power.

Very silly bug, I seem to remember having a problem like this years ago on an older model and had to wait for sw update.
