Iphone 6 touchscreen/keyboard issues

Got my iphone 6 yesterday and set it up by restoring a backup from my iphone 5 (with ios8).

FIrst thing I noticed was the touchscreen immediately seemed unresponsive for example it might take several attempts to launch an app. While typing whole key presses just went missing - it wasn't just lag where it catches up.

AFter a couple of restarts the app launching has got better but the keyboard still seems to drop characters. I've turned off predictive and removed the emoji and swype keyboards. Looking at the battery usage it doesn't look like any one app is hogging CPU.

I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware fault but will try creating a new backup then restore the phone and setup as new In case it's something in the backup image thats the problem.

Not seeing lots of similar posts so clearly not a widespread issue.

Just upgraded to iPhone 6 from iPhone 5, and seeing that a few keys are prone to missing in Portrait mode (A, P, L and backspace key). It's very annoying because it keeps missing these keys unless I press them a few times and at a particular angle - not sure if this a software issue, or an area on the touch screen where responsiveness is pretty bad.

I have been a long time iPhone customer, (2g, 3GS, 4s, 5 and now onto 6) and I have never noticed this before.

I did do do a har-reset but the problem persists. Any other suggestions, else I'll end up wasting time with the Genius Bar fellows asking for a replacement.

This is not expected from Apple devices.

Thanks for your help,

I've been a fanboy for quite a long time now. This is the first time Apple really disappoints me. The first iPhone6 I got had the speaker/microphone issue (see other threads). The new now is as responsive as %$#^..... 😠

I tried all your options...resetting all settings, setting it up as a new phone...etc...nothing works. Even worse, I even have a slightly yellowish hals screen.....Seems like the first batches are totally ^%&$ up 😠👿. This is a 900 euro phone....there is no excuse for this kind of mess.

By the way...I'm now on 8.1 ant still unresponsiveness in all it's glory...rrrrrrr....

I'll be having an appointment to a "#genius" bar on Tuesday....I hope they have a new one in stock...otherwise I'm considering to take my money back....

I had the same problem: cannot type in landscape mode.

Then I switched to Portrait mode, the keyboard is responsive again.

Then I switched to Landscape mode, the keyboard is OK.

It's a bit bother me that Apple did not find a solution for it yet.

I went to Apple Store to discussed with them. They seemed to be clueless and not well informed about this well-exposed issue.

I have not tried the reset yet.

same issue here, I talked to an Apple engineer, they wondered if the accelerometer was the issue. Wanted me to do some testing, but haven't had time. But also why should I be testing an Apple product for Apple, engineer also mentioned that they have the 6 and have same problems. Seems like apple are not stepping up to support their product.

My next step is to exchange the phone, but if it's a fundamental issue with a part then it won't make a difference until the problem is resolvedNeither the part.

My keyboard has severe legginess - will just stop and then quickly puke out all the letters, many of them incorrect, and then will stop again and I just continue to type, nothing - then all of a sudden after about 5 seconds, it will puke out all the letters. Trying to backspace to correct is a nightmare. I've tried all the kinds of resets posted here and still the problem persists.

Hi!

I talked to Apple support about this and they suggested turning off iCloud Drive. This is because the keyboard custom dictionary uses it and it for me seems like every time the keyboard hangs, the little icon symboling data traffic is on. Turning iCloud Drive off works for me. They are sure this is already being worked om by engineering, and could be fixed in iOS 8.1.1, currently in beta.

I have this same unresponsiveness in my iphone 6. I've had the display replaced no effect. Iphone replaced twice same problem. It would work at the Apple Store but as soon as I do a back up from my computer or iCloud the problem returns. I called Apple and was told to reset the iPhone as new. Then manually, from iCloud, move the Notes, Contacts, Apps, etc over to the iPhone. That should do the trick. I will try it tonight when my wife returns. Will let you know of the outcome.

I had the same problem. The issue is that if you restore from a backup, you will continue to have the same problem. What I was instructed to do and this actually worked, is make an iCloud backup of all the data on your phone. Then plug your phone into a computer with iTunes, and reset the phone using iTunes. This will write an entirely new clean software install on your phone. After the software has been successfully installed and you get the hello screen then you can restore your backup from iCloud. It took quite a while to accomplish this, but it worked perfectly and now my phone works again.

I have a request, for those of you who posted solutions that are no longer having problems, would you mind including how long ago it was that you applied a fix?

The reason I'm asking is because if someone posts a solution in the forums literally a few minutes after performing a fix it doesn't do the rest of us any good because not enough time has passed to confirm if it actually resolved the issue. If you aren't already doing so, after you resolve the issue use your phone a few days and make sure the problem is really gone before coming to the forums and suggesting people do things like going as far as to perform a system restore (factory defaults) on their phone. I'd recommend you use the same caution even if your solution came from someone in a technical support center or a repair technician at an apple store. If a fix can't be confirmed any recommendations regarding that fix is just bad advice. For those of you who are taking the time to make sure it works before posting, thank you for your efforts.

I have read every post as my phone ( iPhone 6 purchased last November) keyboard was sluggish and even disappeared when I tried to add a contact. The only two that bugs I tried based on comments is hard reboot, reset dictionary. Neither solved problem so I called apple. Was told to reset settings, yes you have to go back and reset sounds, wireless etc. but that solved the problem. The phone actually responds faster also. Only reset settings do not erase. Phone will reboot but that is what solved my phone problem.
