Iphone 6 touchscreen/keyboard issues

Got my iphone 6 yesterday and set it up by restoring a backup from my iphone 5 (with ios8).

FIrst thing I noticed was the touchscreen immediately seemed unresponsive for example it might take several attempts to launch an app. While typing whole key presses just went missing - it wasn't just lag where it catches up.

AFter a couple of restarts the app launching has got better but the keyboard still seems to drop characters. I've turned off predictive and removed the emoji and swype keyboards. Looking at the battery usage it doesn't look like any one app is hogging CPU.

I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware fault but will try creating a new backup then restore the phone and setup as new In case it's something in the backup image thats the problem.

Not seeing lots of similar posts so clearly not a widespread issue.

If you have tried the Reset and also the Reset All Settings, and they didn't fix the issue then you will need to Setup your iPhone as New after you make a current Backup. If you have a choice in how you do your Backup and Restore, I would suggest a Computer and a current iTunes App. If you can do this the start with Backing up your iPhone via a Sync. After that completes your Summary Screen on iTunes should have the then current time as the Last Backup. If that is the case then Restore your iPhone to Factory Settings and you can set it up as New. After you have gone through all that and everything completes, you can go back and Restore from the Backup you recently made. When that is done you should have mitigated the Screen Sensitivity Issue.

I can attest to the Screen Sensitivity Issue that manifests itself as...

All of a sudden i must have become a pour typist, particularly trying to type the "a" and the "backspace" key

When i try to depress an App, it appears that I have to Tap the widget / icon three or four times to get it to open

The keyboard just won't register when I try to type any character near the edge

My typing is sluggish of some reason

This is the condition that my iPhone 6, 64 GB, Space Gray; was having after using my prior iPhone 5 Backup to load my Media, Apps, and Data to my new iPhone 6. I was moving from an iPhone 5 with iOS 8 to the iPhone 6. I did a normal Reset and checked and was still seeing the problem. Next, hoping to avoid a Restore as New; I went to Settings>General>Reset and I selected "Reset All". The Issue was resolved. My Issue had nothing to do with Horizontal Screen. But the process I followed did mitigate my issue. As such saying "a Reset All is an absurd solution that doesn't work" is not accurate for at least some users issues.

I have the very same problem (on 4S), where keyboard becomes completely unresponsive at times. No lag, just unresponsive. Restarting apps / rebooting phone / hard reset didn't solve the problem.

I've notices that the proximity sensor has become much more sensitive than in iOS7. When switching to landscape, if I have just one millimeter of my finger on the top-bottom of the screen (left-right in landscape), it 'locks', but usually not dims the screen.

When I put my phone on a flat surface it's usually fine.

Please fix the proximity sensor!!

This issue seems to go away after a hard reset, but return shortly thereafter. Reset All Settings doesn't seem to make a difference, nor did an upgrade to 8.0.2. Has anyone talked to customer/tech support about this issue? My wife will be bringing her phone to the Apple Store tomorrow, as it's basically unusable. It's not just typing that is affected. Sometimes it's impossible to even unlock the phone because the screen does not correctly register the unlock swipe, nor the Touch ID.

Hi, my experience will also greatly help people here-

I got my iPhone 6 64 gig space gray on the day it launched by a preorder from Sprint, as soon as I restored my iCloud back up (which was 20 GB) I noticed the exact issue others are describing here in that the keyboard anD entire parts of the screen lag really badly to the point where typing was very very difficult and I had to often use Siri to enter text..

A few days later I made an appointment with the genius at the Apple store, that appointment was yesterday, I went into the store and the Apple rep that helped me immediately noticed the issue of the lag and ran the diagnostic and determined he would give me a new phone. As soon as he gave me the new phone I commented how great the keyboard was now and he confirm the speed /lag difference between the old phone to new phone (at this point I had not begun my iCloud restore). I got home and about halfway through my same iCloud restore the issue returned just like before (I decided to wait until the restore was done before troubleshooting). So once restore was done (it went quick, I'm on 100 Mbit Internet) I began troubleshooting various things like turning off background app refresh and other settings, nothing seem to affect the lag.

I then decided to try the "reset all settings" described here, (NOT reset data - it simply resets your settings on your phone and doesn't affect any of your apps or Photos/data). This 100% fixed my lag keyboard and leg screen issue and my phone has been perfect for the past 12 hours.

Same issue, slow touchscreen response, needing to tap some keys many times before it takes, nearly dead areas including the ‘a’ key and surrounding area, and applications having significant lag when scrolling.

Resolution = Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

This resolved all issues except iMessages was not working with my phone number and instead used email to deliver the message. A call to Verizon resulted in this fix:

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Once finished, power off, then back on. Then Settings > Messages > iMessage, move slider to off, then back on.

The phone and touch screen are now very fast and responsive with no return issues. I had tried other suggestions first . . . restarting the phone; a hard reset which provide only small improvement; resetting the phone back to its factory new settings and setting it up as a new phone, then restoring from computer backup. Apple chat was very helpful as always, but ultimately it was the “reset all settings” suggestion found here that worked.

No other data was lost.

Just as background, I moved from iPhone 4S. Backed up and sync’d to a PC. Updated the 4S from iOS 7.1.2 to iOS 8.0.2. Backed up to the PC again. Activated the new iPhone 6 with Verizon and set it up by restoring from backup. Then did a sync. The touch screen issues started here.
