Can't sync music anymore with iOS 8. All disappeared.

Okay, I just updated my iPhone 4s to iOS 8 two days ago. Today, I wanted to put more music from my iTunes in my PC. Note that my iTunes in PC is recently updated. When I started syncing my new music, it won't work. When I start playing a song in my phone, won't work too. Almost all disappeared. From having 664 songs, I have 16 left. Please help. I want my music back.

UPDATE: I restored to a backup of my old iPhone (so I lost everything between today and Friday) but my 52 gigs of corrupt data is still there. I'm on the phone with Apple now. They just put me on hold. Let's see how this plays out.


Another fun note: If you want to do a full restore you have to download iOS 8. I was going to do that initially, but when I saw that it was going to take 2 hours to download the software I opted against it.

Had a similar problem on my brand new iphone 6. I think a couple of interrupted icloud restores due to them taking for effing ever added to the issue too, as the servers were swamped while I was doing this the evening of Sept 19th. come to find out later upon buying 2 new songs from itunes I wanted to add to a current old playlist..that they were in the cloud but I couldn't get the on my iphone even via itunes at first. I called applecare they had me uncheck everything then sync then recheck the playlist that I want and that fixed it. Though I continued to have other problems since. So applecare had me restore my brand new iphone 6 back to factory settings and set up as 'new' again instead, then I manually added everything back. It 'seems' ok now but it's only been 8 hours. 😐

Have at it again...it only crashed on me once. Second try I was able to clear out all music from my phone. Following this then you'll uncheck All Music, sync, so now you have an empty phone, then follow my steps:


in Summary, go to Options, select/check Manually manage music and videos.

alike me & everyone else, we all have our playlists set and checked already, if you added new music, well then just sekect the check box on the Artist or Album, chances are if its more of the same which you listen Tomo then you'll likely have them checked already!

Now Sync! Hope it works for you and anyone else who reads! IM PRESENTKY WATCHING 3000+ songs syncing to my new iPhone 6

after you connect your phone via USB/lightning, it'll be recognized by your computer, at this point you should be on the summary page, if not then you'd have to be in your library, click the tab IPHONE, it leads you to Summary! Follow process:

if this doesn't work then follow the steps from another user about removing all music from your ohone first, then try my method.

It 'seems' ok now but it's only been 8 hours. 😐 Of course my new iphone 6 is only a 16gb and I want to keep the videos on there, there, since I mostly use my ipods for music listening I've reduced my iphone to just a few LARGE playlists with just under 400 songs and all.

I would like to know how you make out after those 3000+ songs have synched 🙂

So far just one song has been synced with an apparent bad transmission. The song started 1:45 into the track! Weird! I figured I'll just delete it and drop it back into my library again from its original location, whether that be from my iMac itself or the external hard drive. I've read that when you sync bulks of songs in high quantity sometimes this can happen...hopefully it's an individual incident with only that track! Everything else appears to have synced successfully as far as count goes and not seeing greyed out tracks as I flip thru albums. Till tomorrow!

Update: My problem seems solved. I demonstrated to myself repeatedly that wiping out all music (uncheck Sync Music in iTunes then sync; delete remaining music in iPhone settings>Usage>Manage Storage) followed by fresh sync adds it all back. The 2nd subsequent sync re-copies a lot of artwork unnecessarily and one by one all non-itunes albums convert to red square in circle with greyed out name when played. Very predictable.


Problem went away after (In no particular order), I turned off automatic downloads everywhere I could find in iPhone and iTunes. I signed out of iCloud on iPhone, signed out of iTunes store on iPhone and Mac. Also checked Manage Music manually in iTunes on Mac, and eventually unchecked it again. All this added up to PROBLEM SOLVED, after which I synced with no problem at least 10 times. Then one by one I signed back in to everything and turned on automatic downloads on phone & always check for downloads in iTunes. I synced successfully after every change. Don't know what step actually solved the issue. Maybe something reset my account on cloud to solve issue.... Good luck to those still wrestling with this.

iPhone: Resetting Network Settings: Settings > General > [Security Key] > Reset

iPhone: Settings > General > Manage Storage > Music [Delete]

iTunes: [Uncheck] Sync Music > [Apply] [Sync]

iTunes: [Check] Sync Music > Entire Music Library > [Apply] [Sync]


And it looks like this combo worked for me!! I'm sitting here watching 4,864 songs sync. 🙂

Forget about waiting for a fix from Apple. This problem has existed for at least 2-3 years through multiple versions of iPhones, iOS and iTunes. It is absolutely astounding to me that Apple doesn't fix it. I have no problem syncing music with my iPods - they work flawlessly. I have seen posts from others that they don't have a problem with their iPads. It seems this problem only exists with iPhones but check through the Apple Support pages and you will find reports of this exact same problem an a variety of variations on it going back a long time. I am ready to give up on Apple. This has been incredibly frustrating. I thought one of the key features of the iPhone was having your music available. But this flaw prevents that. I don't want to have to recopy all of my music to my iPhone every time I want to add a new tune. I have over 40 GB of music and it takes at least two hours to do that. Yet, that seems to be the only fix available. After you do that it may sync once or twice or maybe even three times but then it eventually fails again.
