You can only post in a "leaf" or "child" forum (depending your preferred metaphor)

this illustrates how "iPhone" is a "limb" or "parent" and you cannot post in it - but can in the "sub-forums" that appear as links

At the end of the New Discussion posting process, you need to make a choice of where to put it

SOME forums are BOTH parent AND child - like "Using Apple Support Communities" or "Apple ID"

Most likely you're trying to post into one of the parent containers such as iPhone or iTunes instead of a community forum such as Using iPhone or iTunes for Windows. See this Community Site Map - Discussions Links for links to the active forums and pick the appropriate one in which to ask your question.

It's simple. Some big communities that are the names of products Apple makes, such as iTunes or iPad, cannot be posted to. Instead, use something like Using iTunes, or Using iPad, etc. This will allow you to post. You can tell which ones are valid by looking at the symbol to the right of its name. Topics you cannot post to will have an invalid sign beside them, while ones you can post to usually have the communities icon beside it.

You have to choice a category/forum to be able to post. Not just iphone or mac. Make sure to click and choice your way through the drop down list. Then it should work.

Make sure you are selecting a group from the choices provided by Apple and not typing in your own term for it or the one that seems to be populated in the field when you land on the relevant page (by Apple or High Sierra or God knows who). I don't know if glitches will still impact you after doing this but it cleared up the problem for me. Good luck.

Check where you're trying to post. You should be able to post into the iTunes for Windows community, for example, but not its parent iTunes.

It is incredibly annoying isn't it? Genius? Not even close.

The issue for me was, based on my question, the discussion software entered a forum category of "TV" for me. The problem is there is no such established category as "TV" so the only feedback was that annoying, unhelpful error message. Manually selecting a category did the trick. Since this thread was initiated back in 2014 and three years later the issue still exists, that says volumes about the richest company on the planet.

Select a group to post your question to (just below question dialog box).

For me it was because I didn't choose properly an option for the field "Select a Community To Post To"

In my case, it kept bringing up an old question I had submitted under "Apple TV" and was submitting my new question under that (which was correct). However, appears they no longer support that topic. Once I selected "Apple Music on Apple TV" it worked.

Losing a lot of confidence in the people at Apple.

Um, you seem to have posted this.

In order to make a new post, you have to be sure to select a community to post to.

This happen to me cuz my region setting was in US but I was actually out of US.

Select a valid group

Select a valid option from the space menu, then the question will be valid and will be posted accordingly.

Make sure you have chosen the community where you want to post your question or query!
