I want to post a question and I keep receiving this error message- "You are not allowed to create or update this content". Can somebody tell me what the problem is?

OK. this MAY be easily solved when you understand the "structure" of these forums

You can only post in a "leaf" or "child" forum (depending your preferred metaphor)

this illustrates how "iPhone" is a "limb" or "parent" and you cannot post in it - but can in the "sub-forums" that appear as links

iPhone >

Using iPhone

iPhone Hardware

iPhone in Business and Education

iPhone Accessories

At the end of the New Discussion posting process, you need to make a choice of where to put it

Look what happens when I "Test"

User uploaded file

THEN, look what happens when I type the word "iPhone" = ALL by ITSELF

User uploaded file

SOME forums are BOTH parent AND child - like "Using Apple Support Communities" or "Apple ID"

Hi. Please review this thread from the beginning to get an understanding of how this site works. Note that you must post in a "leaf" forum, e.g. "Using iPhone", not "iPhone", and that you must make the other selections offered. Unfortunately, the javascript isn't smart enough to validate a post, it just sends it in, where it may be bounced by the server.

Hi,

One possible cause: The forum wants you to select a Category.

Below the post: Click "Browse Communities", select a community, and click on a few tags under "Select a Category" (will appear).

This worked for me when I had the same error message (happened a few times).

The error message is misleading, it should be "please select a community and category", not "you are not allowed to create or update this content".

Hope that helps someone.

Hi, my iPhone 7 32GB Black has been stolen at a party I went to last night and I wanted to know how I can retrieve it even if it keeps registering as OFFLINE on find my iPhone. Can i report it to Apple via email and have them track the phone or is that the same as find my iPhone....Also I wanted to know if the Apple warranty covers stolen phones and if it can be replaced if I don't find it ?

I Tried to post a question but I can't so here it is:

If I were to travel overseas and forget to use an international adapter/charger to charge my brand new iPhone and it ends up exploding because the electrical system is different overseas, completely destroying the phone and causing other property damage, is this converted under the warranty?

If you use any equipment in a way that isn't recommended by the manufacturer and something bad happens, then no, the warranty doesn't apply. A warranty typically only covers the repair or replacement of the defective item, not any losses that might arise from the failure.

Hi 102mac102. Your problem is a little off the topic of this thread, which relates to problems posting on this site. I suggest you post a new question with your specific problem. Give as many details as possible, including computer, OS version, and program being used. And you might look for a forum related to the specific program. Start from the top Communities page and drill down till you reach a page that just lists topics, then use the ask question device there.

One more time with more info.

I've just upgraded to macOS Sierra a week ago and have attempted 3 times to post a question and 3 times it tells me "you are not allowed to create or update this content". I've done it from a Win7 PC, I've tried from my iMac, I'm logged in, less than 30 minutes, caches cleared. Why is this not working? and why it is allowing me to post here but not other forums? I'm baffled.
