I want to post a question and I keep receiving this error message- "You are not allowed to create or update this content". Can somebody tell me what the problem is?

OK. this MAY be easily solved when you understand the "structure" of these forums

You can only post in a "leaf" or "child" forum (depending your preferred metaphor)

this illustrates how "iPhone" is a "limb" or "parent" and you cannot post in it - but can in the "sub-forums" that appear as links

iPhone >

Using iPhone

iPhone Hardware

iPhone in Business and Education

iPhone Accessories

At the end of the New Discussion posting process, you need to make a choice of where to put it

Look what happens when I "Test"

User uploaded file

THEN, look what happens when I type the word "iPhone" = ALL by ITSELF

User uploaded file

SOME forums are BOTH parent AND child - like "Using Apple Support Communities" or "Apple ID"

I found the page wanted refinements for where to post the question

but does not say that.... that would be to helpful for an already frustrated user..... LOL

the categories not matching my question...

also frustrating...

my Q was a general Q about an iTunes window problem...

sorry to see apple becoming as flawed as MS

I'd thought to make the change to MAC

but... no point if there are the same problems and even more problems getting help

I am not able to sync videos from iTunes on my MacBook pro (sierra os) to my iPhone 6+ 10.3.3 iOS (using usb cable for sync). The videos exist in the photo library on my MacBook. I have selected include videos per the sync setting. I have toggled the setting back and forth, hard reset iPhone. restarted computer. No effect on moving videos to my phone. Photos synch without problem. At one time they did sync, but now no longer do. Both iPhone and MacBook are fully up to date reference software, os, etc. Thanks so much in advance for any helpful solution. I could not post this in the usual way. Always get the message I can not create or update. Trying to see if I can do it as a reply. Boy, even the website to try to fix all the things that are broke on mac/iphone is broke itself it seems and needs its own tech support!

I would never ever have found or guessed this. The UI is terrible! I have been blocked from posting for a year because of this bug/bogus error message with no indication of what the actual problem is. This is typical Apple SW.

Yet here you are posting this complaint...

When veteran members see these, most us us just wait a couple of seconds for the alert to fade away and try again

Jive is not without its little quirks - Red Alerts for seemingly no reason are more common at some times and not others - Not ALL Red Alerts read EXACTLY the same... close enough perhaps that you are confusing "cannot do something" with "... not allowed to create or update..."

This thread is VERY old. There has been some measure of success in reducing the frequency and types of Red Alert conditions since it got started

You get automatically logged out after 30 minutes. The forum software doesn't always tell you this. It waits until you do something that requires you to be logged in then give you a cryptic error message.

There are several bugs in this area the will cause additional confusion.

-- slow login

Try another tab & login again

-- on a thread page, doesn't notice you are logged in when you are.
