I'm struggling to use Hotmail on iOS8. When I restored my phone it would not accept the correct password.
I have deleted it and tried adding it again.
I've tried exchange, outlook and adding it manually. I keep getting 'Unable to verify account information".
I am using 2 step authentication but it would normally prompt for this key after.

That was helpful but their is another option-
1. Login your Hotmail id in the browser
2. go to account .live.com
3. Find out -''App passwords''
4. Then go to - ''Create a new app password''
and done you will get a new long Password copy it and Past the same in the Password option during setup of your Hotmail account in I phone Mail app.

Simple fix... On a computer log into your hotmail. Go to settings then options. on the options page you will see a list on the left side. Under account you will see pop3. Select this. Turn on pop3 and you are done. This option allows you to add hotmail on your iPhone. When you add it just use the outlook button. Then just enter email address and password and description then press done and it will set it up. This is way easier then all the other fixes listed on here.
