iphone 6 headphone jack Issues

The iPhone 6 jack has too much tolerance and 1/2 the headphones I own cause cut outs or music to stops playing. In addition Siri will sometimes engage erroneously do to the movement in the headphone jack. I tried and iPhone 5 and all of my jacks fit very snug without any issues. The problem appears to be that the the iPhone 6 jack was designed to allow rotation of the connector and this is a problem for a number of headphones.

I am sad to report that I am having very strange issues with my iPhone 6 plus, 128gb gold iPhone. The headphone jack is causing popping and electrical sounds in the headphones. There's clearly something wrong with the jack. The sound doesn't happen with my other phones or devices using the same headphones (Klipsch S4is). I'm hoping I can get a replacement at the Genius Bar. Has anyone gotten a replacement that actually fixes the issue?

I just got an iPhone 6 and had static, popping and dropouts with the headphone jack and new earphones. With dropouts, the music stopped as you would expect. I tried my old Sony earphones and it was much better but not perfect. Engineers used to like gold for low voltage contacts because it would conform due to its softness and not oxidize. Not any more. Oxidation and/or little pimples in the surface of contacts can cause just these problems. Solution: I tried spinning the new plug inside the jack and got rid of the problem. I suspect the jack was the main culprit, with the new plug being an accessory to the crime. I do think this is a design or manufacturing issue.

Meanwhile, i have never had a pair of Apple earbuds last more than 6 months with the majority failing in 4 months or so. I am not abusive. Failure mode is usually sound degradation in one ear--usually the right one.

Following up on my last post...

I went to the Santa Monica genius bar for help. The rep was fairly dismissive of my concerns. There is clear static, crackling and popping when I put in headphones. It is very clear to someone like me who is using good headphones and with aftermarket tips that create a good deal on my ears. The static sounds do not occur on any other device that I own. I tested on a galaxy note 4 and a galaxy tab s, and did not experience these sounds. I tested on my girlfriend's 5s, and no sounds.

However, on testing various 6 and 6 plus in the store, I heard varying levels of the sound. Therefore it's either a hardware issue across the 6 line or a current software issue.

The rep at the Apple store did nothing and seemed to be suspicious of my complaint. I heard the jarring sounds with the headphones he provided too, though he claimed to not hear anything.

I am fairly disturbed by this since I spent so much on my 6 plus and listening to music and making calls with my wired headset are my top uses of the device.

I certainly hope that there is a software fix coming. If it's a hardware issue, I hope that they will offer replacements to us early adopters.

Just got my new iPhone 6, and same problem -- just plugged in the Apple earphones, lots of static and cutting out with the slightest movement of the headphone plug. Just spent hours setting up the phone, now gotta take it back.

I went through iPhone 4S's and both headphone jacks broke, but it took about 18 months both times.

This is absolutely ridiculous - if you take yours back insist on a NEW phone that works, otherwise they'll give you a refurb on AppleCare.

This phone costs too much to tolerate this kind of careless manufacturing.

When you go into the store, be sure to print and bring this thread, otherwise they'll blow you off.

well, I've had my Iphone 6 now got one month. I put the headphones (Bose) in last night and no sound. So left it s while. Then I put my headphones in an hour later but this time I got Sound. However it was intermittent, and crackling, so I took them out. It was the same with ***THREE*** other pair of headphones, sometimes no sound, the crackling, and occasionally full perfect sound. Can't understand it. Its not that it does or doesn't work, but "sometimes". Now however, another problem which is relative when the headphones don't work. Siri won't work either.

The audio level doesn't move at all and Siri won't work, even though its activated in settings. This is with or without the headphones plugged in. So then I reset it with volume and off button, and last night it worked straight away. But only for a short time (about 10-15 minutes) then reverted to the issue again. So I did a full reset (reset all settings, not ERASE). Once again it worked after this but only for a short period. And then it reverted back to issue (don't) It seems when I use Siri it fails my headphones, but sometimes it's the other way Round. Can't understand It.

Anyway did another reset and the headphones and Siri are working at the moment (got my headphones plugged in and going to let the music okay through for an hour. (The sound is perfect At this time i will say). So what is it? Will it go again? Is it Siri or some software problem?, or could it be that when I insert/reinsert my headphones it interferes with some sort of "hybrid" soft-hard ware? Like a bit of both? I listen to audio books daily do this is definitely a no no for me. I'll see in an hour from now how things go. But what I noticed is that if I les e headphones in it will (mainly ) be ok for that listening session.

Hello all

I can't seem to edit my above post (edit disabled) so please read this post)

Edit: AT WRITING the music and headphones have stopped working, and so too Siri (seems to be related here to more than Headphones would you think? I'm going to leave it a while now, as getting tired of what is an otherwise excellent handset.

Ps: can someone test the Siri function as well when they/you have headphone issues

Thanks

Thanks, thanks a lot.. I was really frustrated with my stock EarPods as I was thinking they were defective. Once I realized, it gave the same problem with my AudioTechnica earphones either, I was just about to take the phone to local Apple store, just before I read this thread.

The problem: When you connect EarPods or 3rd party earphones to your iPhone6, the control functions of your earphones is not working at all or works odd. That's said they don't function correctly when you volume up or down, nor jump to the next track, nor pause.

Solution: Thanks to @13PPO13 --> Settings-Music-Volume Limit--> EU Volume Limit "off"

I don't know this EU limit is only for EU (maybe you don't have it out there in the States) but the problem is certainly related with this settings. Whenever you disable it, earphones start working properly.

Definitely a software problem to be reported and solved.

I think I found a temporary solution to that. I have the problem where movement causes my Music to start/stop. I have a Xiaomi Piston which has a metal base connector.

I tried to wrap electrical tape near the base and it worked perfectly after, but then the tape would constantly fall of because I frequently disconnect the earphone.

Right now I inserted the jack into a small silicone earphone tip which I had. Did that inside out and now the base connector is sealed from the phone and the thing holds firmly in place. The images will help you understand. Hopefully this will help with the static noise issue some of you guys are having.

Well, I have the same problem using my Native Union Moshi Pop Handset with my iPhone 6 and I thought I had a defective handset until I found this thread. The apple earbuds that came with the phone work fine, but not my handset. I get the music coming on and off randomly as well as Siri coming on and it disconnects my phone calls. Turns out my problem is indeed the metal ring on the base of the connector as has been mentioned previously in this thread. Thanks Afarzand for the earphone tip suggestion, I will try that.

QUICK WAY TO SEE IF YOU HAVE THE METAL RING PROBLEM: Gently poke the connector though a Post-It Note and then plug it in and see if it works normally.
