iPhone 6: Apparent backlight uniformity issue

My new Verizon iPhone 6 64GB exhibits a darker region on the top 1/8th of the display. It is most evident when displaying a white background. It is difficult to tell whether it's a chromaticity issue (AMLCD issue), a luminance uniformity problem (backlight), or something else all together.

Anyone else notice this effect on their new phone?

Given the atrocious conditions the workers on the assembly line have to live and work in, it's amazing that they manage to churn out a working phone let alone one with a decent screen.

Apple seem to want to deny everything but the BBC Panorama Special filmed with hidden cameras showing workers being threatened, falling asleep on the production line and having to live in conditions that are more crowded than your average prison made me quite ashamed to be such a fan of these products.

Seriously, for the premium we pay here, I would have expected some of the profit to go toward improving the lives of those who actually make the phones.

I'm on my third iPhone 6 now, screen has issues at the top, not as bad as the previous two handsets but certainly not right - the phone is more like a childs toy than a quality handset.

Bad show Apple. Clean your act up or move over and let somebody else do this the right way.

PS I'm sure the other manufacturers are equally to blame for the plight of these workers but YOU guys have the spending power to make a difference. Do it. Just bloody do it.

Discoloration of LCD only happens near the end of its life time. Either it is using a recycled or damaged LCD or intentionally using defective LCD's that should be scrapped.

Leaked online that iPhone 6 scrap rate is only 15%, way below many strict quality control like Note 4's 50% scrap rate.

So at least 41.18% of iPhone 6 buyers bought defective products at premium price. That's over 4 out of 10 while my experiences told me 9 out of 10.

even this honest review does not mention high defect rate of iPhone 6 - review site for sure got the best pick.

but it did see other than 1 inch larger, all other bars have been lowered on display quality. HTC is really promising, will check it out for sure.

I could tolerate (stand) yellow and dark cloud on MacBook Pro (use only windows 7). But 4.7" has such a little real estate, 10% of smudge will ruin the whole experiences.

From what people have reported and I read, dark/yellow bands appear at top, bottom or corner. It means the LCD is good but the manufacturing process damaged those area (smudged) when fitting the screen on, being it glue, air leaking (popping sound in one case), dirt under class, or uneven pressure (pressure does change LCD color/lighting a lot).

Someone overseeing the production line should examine some samples and found out why this happened.

What is the most important part and also the most expensive and also most used? the screen. One bad screen can easily kill a company.

Previous LCD was sourced at $99 and now the larger size is around $73. LG LCD is far inferior than Samsung - easily see from their TVs.

I couldn't agree with you more! The first one I had, had two darkish smudges in the middle center of the screen. I thought at first my eyes were playing tricks on me but then I loaded up a plain white background and there they were. I think that one had uneven pressure because if I gently pushed on those areas I could move the smudges around! And after a little massaging they would move and sort of disappear for like a minute or two and then creep back in. So annoying. So I sent that one in and they said they found no problems and send me a new one anyways! Next one has the crescent around the facetime camera! Also the screen is dimmer on the upper right hand side and its more noticeable in lower brightness settings and still has some faint smudges all around the edges of the screen. So now I'm going to send it in yet again! Hopefully my next one is perfect. But I'm not feeling so confident because of the posts on here with some people on their 3rd, 4th and some with a 5th device that still has problems! I guess I'll just keep exchanging till they get it right.
