iPhone 6: Apparent backlight uniformity issue

My new Verizon iPhone 6 64GB exhibits a darker region on the top 1/8th of the display. It is most evident when displaying a white background. It is difficult to tell whether it's a chromaticity issue (AMLCD issue), a luminance uniformity problem (backlight), or something else all together.

Anyone else notice this effect on their new phone?

I've been reading this thread with interest - I noticed my battery icon seemed "fuzzy" on a brand new 64gb gold iPhone 6. Then on closer inspection noticed I could also see a row of bright spots caused by backlight bleed.

I seem to be able to spot this far easier than my partner although, I can eventually "get her" to see it. The difference between us? Other than 10 years lol, is that I am colour blind!

I wonder if this is what's making only some people notice the issues whilst others don't see it?

If anyone who ISN'T colour blind has posted above, speak up now?

In the meantime, I'm on the phone to THREE UK arranging to return my second iPhone 6 with the problem - both are C36 serial number! I'm going to see if they will send me a silver one this time in the hope that this model is more popular than the gold and I may get a more recent serial number!

That blows that theory out of the water then.

Can't believe Apple would ship such shoddily constructed products - Steve Jobs would be furious I imagine!

I would have been MORE than happy with a larger 5S style phone with the new chips in there etc. All this redesign every year or so is just a waste of time, perhaps Jonny Ive has passed his peak in this respect. If he had my latest iPhone 6 in his hands I can guarantee he would be thinking "this is rubbish".

The more I look into this issue, the more it seems it can be traced back to the last minute LCD design change.

Although, saying that, on iPhone 6 number 2 I have here in my hands, there are sharp edges around the home button - my 5s didn't have this issue and neither did the iPhone 6 1 that I was originally delivered.

Poor show with no resolution other than to accept, as early adopters, we get the rubbish and "mistakes".

Greetings from Austria,

Bought my iPhone 6 Plus 64GB Space Grey a couple weeks ago. The screen was awful with grey spots in both top corners and a grey band along the entire left side of the display, including some very bright pixels in the lower left corner. I called Apple Care and they replaced it with a new one. The upper part of the screen, one cm or so, is still noticeably darker then the rest. I think I'll call them tomorrow... The whole situation is really frustrating. Especially if you have to sit with friends and their way less expensive Samsung/Sony/Nokia smartphones on a table and you're the idiot with a 900 Euro iPhone which screen looks like rubbish. A part of me wants it's iPhone 5 back... that screen was superb, at least mine was.

4th iPad Air 2 got me an even and clean screen, I thought. But the 4th one now shows book binder. Out of previous three, two had dirt under screen and 3rd one is half dark.

Now iPhone 6 should be called iPhone Sicks, or pPhone (p=pee). I'm ready to keep exchanging until allowed. Then return for a Note 4. The only reason is their ECO-System, most friends and family use p-Products in a huge urinated world. But we have to change, yes we can!

could this be a sabotage? with competitors like LG, Sony, even enemy Samsung supplying displays. It might be Samsung first told Rotten Fruit the screen is with normal specification on their contract.

Forgot to mention Retina MBP burn-in problem. Buying a p-Product is like finding a foxconn worker who did not drink for a whole day!

Well, sometimes you're just out of luck I suppose. My original iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 5, original iPad, iPad with Retina Display and all my Macs had beautiful screens so far. I had to sent back my iPhone 4 a couple of times because of display issues. Now I have to do it again with the 6 Plus and so I called Apple Care this morning and they were rather helpful. The replacement is on it's way and this time its a model that has recently been manufactured (I checked the SN online), the replacement unit which I'm currently using and the one before were 2-3 months old. Maybe things have changed for the better. Fingers crossed.

From Brazil, serial F17, iPhone 6 64gb space gray.

I haven't seen any color missmatch, but there is for sure a backlight issue.

I've made a few tests and found these details:

1 - Brighter stains near the mute switch that seems like a half circle, fading down to normal bright after 5mm from the edge. And a less visible at the right side, same line.

2 - Bright line through the bottom and left side. Both have near 3mm and again fade down to normal bright.

3 - They're easier to see in light gray or light blue images, for test proposal, I made a full frame blue screen and used my iPad to take a photo of it, as attached.

4 - This lighted areas are more visible in the darker 1/3 of the screen bright.

#1 DNP - noisy home button, moderate dark shadow upper right 1/3 of screen

#2 C3J - two big black dots under screen (dead pixel clusters, dirt, metal chips, or Steve Jobs' eyes that are not willing to shut). Button is very quiet

#3 DNP - obvious dark band on top with spot lights around camera area

all returned ... horrible experience ...

so the odds getting a decent iphone 6 might be tougher than winning a lottery.

Please suggest alternative: Galaxy Note 4, S5, LG G3, HTC, Nexus 6 etc...

Wait a minute... Didn't you post that you got a F78 replacement on November 17th? How did you get a phone manufactured in December?! Something isn't quite right there!

Got my first replacement back and I have to send it back because of the crescent shape thing happening on the FaceTime camera right out of the box. Also the screen is dimmer in the upper right side. Hmm I wonder if my 3rd will be ok? Not used to this from Apple. My iPhone 4 and 5 were perfect.
