iPhone 6: Apparent backlight uniformity issue

My new Verizon iPhone 6 64GB exhibits a darker region on the top 1/8th of the display. It is most evident when displaying a white background. It is difficult to tell whether it's a chromaticity issue (AMLCD issue), a luminance uniformity problem (backlight), or something else all together.

Anyone else notice this effect on their new phone?

I am having the same issue on my verizon 128gb iphone 6; areas of screen darkening at the top of the screen on either side of the time displayed. I got my phone 3 days ago and it seemed to get progressively worse. Yesterday I swapped it out for a new one at Apple. I'm noticing the same issue on the new one, but perhaps less pronounced. Not really that a HUGE deal, but annoying especially for the supposed quality and price of these devices. I will monitor it and if gets worse I will go back again. Glad I have the apple care + for my device, although shouldn't have to pay even more to ensure that manufacturing issues don't cause me problems down the road! Serial # on initial one begins F78; new one F73

What you're describing seems different than my issue. My issue is limited to the very top of the phone (the area where the status bar is located when the phone is in portrait mode). There are patches that are slightly darker than other areas.

It's looks similar to what happens when you write on white paper in pencil and then erase what you wrote—you can still tell that something was written and then erased because it is a hair darker.

Sounds like the same issue i'm having, I see it in portrait mode. Darker areas at the top left & top right. The higher I put the brightness the less noticeable it is.

I think I read your initial post too quickly. My apologies.

It does seem like you are experiencing the same issue. Mine is most obvious to the left and right of the time as well.

I don't know what you guys are complaining about. The phone comes in a beautiful box that has no yellow discolouration whatsoever. Seriously though, I have the same discolouration albeit subtle. I also have a bit of uneven backlight that can be seen when scrolling. These issues unfortunately sound "normal". I suspect many more people have issues and just don't notice it. It's not just Apple, I've gone through many TVs with similar issues. I would take the phone back but how many would it take to get a perfect one?

I do not have your problem but I have seen it in the store. My issue is a bright spot just north of centre most notably seen when scrolling. I'll probably wait to return the phone until there is lots of stock and then see if they will offer me a replacement.

The slight white balance shift I can live with. I have gotten used to it on my iPad 4th gen.

Can't hurt to ask.

I went to my Apple Store and I think calling this problem common was a bit harsh. All of the phones that I saw had none of these issues. At lease you couldn't see it perhaps because of all the fingerprints. I'm not sure what I will do because my issue is pretty subtle so they probably won't even see it but who knows.

I've seen a handful of new iPhone 6's--from my anecdotal observation (4 units)--it's seems the backlight uniformity issue seem more common on the white handsets than black. My wife's gold iPhone 6 is especially bad where you can see a hotspot even on non-white background.

I'll report it to support (just for the record) but probably won't ask for replacement until the supplies get better...
