iPhone 6: Apparent backlight uniformity issue

My new Verizon iPhone 6 64GB exhibits a darker region on the top 1/8th of the display. It is most evident when displaying a white background. It is difficult to tell whether it's a chromaticity issue (AMLCD issue), a luminance uniformity problem (backlight), or something else all together.

Anyone else notice this effect on their new phone?

This is my F73 unit. Attached is a photo showing a dark, and slightly yellow, patch in the upper left corner of the screen. Left side is straight from the camera, right side is contrast enhanced. The rest of the backlight variation is too subtle to complain about with the naked eye, but the spot in the top left is distracting to me when reading text on a white background with dim screen brightness.

Looks exactly like mine as well. I took my first one back that had back-lighting issues, and got a new one that had the same issues. It's probably not even worth taking back until the issue is recognized and rectified in new manufacturing batches. I've gotten to the point where I don't really notice mine anymore. It's a bummer but if I go back again, I might get another with same problem. Unless I specify that I want a completely different serial number sequence, not sure how that would work out.

A hotspot is a good way to describe mine. I don't have any shadowing along the edges of the display. I took it back to my apple store and they claimed it was within spec even though all the other phones they had on display showed no issues like mine. Obviously the people I talked to were clueless. I'll have to take it back to my cell provider. Either way apple is getting a phone back one way or another.

I'm on my 4th iPhone 6

1) Verizon store - shadow over battery

2) Verizon store - shadow and warm/yellow color along the entire top of screen

3) Apple store - shadow over battery similar to first unit

4) Apple store - no more top shadow but warm/yellow color and shadow on bottom left and slight inconsistency in middle right of screen

I'll stick with this one for now because it's the least annoying but I have lost considerable faith in Apple. They were nice enough at the store but you cannot compare your current device with the replacement - deal is done when they open the box. They said that if I had the same problem again then I would have to contact Apple support because they frown on multiple replacements for the same issue. I should have stuck to the "S" upgrade cycle. Loved my 4S and 5S and had no screen issues. I think I'm going to try to get AppleCare plus and maybe if my device breaks in a few months they will have corrected the issue with a new batch.

I have the same issue, mine is slightly discoloured in a few areas of the screen. However my first thought was that it's the glue that bonds the glass to the LED. This has happened in all versions of the iPhone since the 4, and is due to the fact these things get built and shipped so quickly that the glue hasn't cured. In previous interations of the phone, the problem has gone away after a week or so.

Lets hope I'm right 🙂

I have an interesting bit to add to this dilemma.

So I have a DNP serial number iPhone 6, silver in 128GB. I have what to me seems an obvious backlight bleed around the status bar and specifically surrounding my battery percentage indicator. The bleed is a shade of grey, most noticeable on a white background, for example when I open safari on a blank page in landscape. If I turn down the brightness, it is much more obvious.

Yesterday I went to the apple store and two genius bar employees examined my phone and both stated they could not see the problem and what I was talking about. I knew that I wasn't crazy so I researched and low and behold, I found this thread. I printed all of it and returned to the apple store today, showing that this is becoming a more and more reported issue.

Today my genius bar employee examines the phone, acknowledges that he also sees the problem and takes the phone "to the back so a senior technician can examine it."

Within a few moments he returns and tells me that this is NOT a display issue but in fact an iOS8 software issue which is "known to apple" and will be addressed in a future software update.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Well i returned my phone and replacement one was worse, the whole bottom 2/5 was yellow, apple genius told me that we can keep exchanging but all will be like that, he told me to come back in a week, but now i don't really see any yellow anymore, he told me it was glue and now as I'm trying to find the yellow, i dont see it as before, either my eyes are playing tricks or it almost all disappeared.

Sounds like total BS. It's quite obviously a hardware issue.

I've noticed this more common on the iPhone 6 silver & gold phones than the 6 gray. Perhaps they are source from different manufacturers or lots? I haven't noticed this at all on any silver 6 Pluses I've seen.

Has anyone experienced this on a 6 space gray phone?
