Iphone 6 cellular data not working on prepay go phone service

Cellular data does not work on iphone 6 with Att pre pay go service for some reason. When I use this same sim card in iphone 5 data works just fine And if I use my wife's post sim in iphone 6, data works as well. So, I think problem is with combination of iPhone 6 and att prepay go phone. Went to local att store and called technical service as well but they had no clue. Please let me if you are having the same issue of know how to fix it. Thanks.

I'll confirm that I just went through this as well... took me a full 30 minutes to convince the advanced tech that I knew what I was talking about (after spending 20 minutes or so getting routed there from customer service). The tech finally found a memo referencing this and 30 seconds later I was in business! What a headache over the past day and a half with Apple C.S. multiple times and AT&T as well as three new SIM cards and a swapped phone. Thank goodness for this thread!

PROBLEM SOLVED

I had the same problem, and I did several things and now I can finally change my itouch 6 to iphone 6

1. called and refreshed the IMEI on AT&T account

2. went to the store + changed SIM card (TWICE. Spent 3 hours on the store😠)

3. called 611, re-regis the phone (the LTE appeared(instead of 4G), but still didn't work)

4. bought a new 1G data package

5. deleted the unlockit.co.nz setting (the AT&T store guy downloaded it for me)

I figured out 4 and 5 by myself after both the store guy and the 611 told me there was nothing else they could do to help.

I assumed step 5 solved the problem because the "unlockit.co.nz" probably altered the correct setting (thats why I saw LTE but it didnt work)

Many thanks to everyone!!!!!

Thank you for posting this. I had to do the same thing.

A few other things I learned in the meantime;

If you used another device between iPhones, (such as an Android phone with no LTE capability); their system tracks that. In other words, their system knows what IMEI you are using on your account and it apparently updates your account provisioning accordingly.

Their systems aren't that smart, so if you move back "up" to an LTE device, there is a chance the system won't provision your account correctly.

I called and asked for the steps in the order the OP stated, but still had to be transferred to "Advanced Tech Support" (aka the English-speaking American AT&T call center) to get assistance getting my account correctly provisioned for LTE.

After 4 calls average 30 minutes each and being treated like an idiot everytime... there still is no fix for me. The technician maintained that he Knew all about "NEXTGENGPO" but said that my SIM was not compatible. (it is a prepaid gophone SIM I've had for years but used successfuly with the iphone 5 and android phones).

I don't know if he was just lying or what. He said I would need to put the at&t sim that the phone 6 came with in the device for him to make the fix. When I explained that the SIM was a T-mobile sim (unlocked iphone6). He said he couldn't help.

CAN SOMEONE WHO HAS HAD SUCCESS CONFIRM...

- you have an contract free t-mobile iphone 6

- you are using an AT&T gophone prepaid sim with $5 for 50MB data

- you got data working on the phone

- what exactly you did

I'm on the $60/ month GoPhone plan with a Verizon iPhone 6. The only reason I know that they told me i needed a new sim was to be able to use VoLTE when it rolls out next year. Other than that you should be able to connect, the T-Mobile phone (if purchased full price from Apple) should be completely unlocked. I have heard that if you power it up initially without removing the T-Mobile SIM it may get locked to their service.

A Couple questions for you:

- did you purchase the phone from T-Mobile?

- Were you using your current SIM card with LTE previously?

- Did you go to an AT&T store to try a new SIM (they will give you one for free and activate it on your account)

This worked for me. The AT&T rep already knew what to do but didn't tell me that they were using the NXTGENGPO code. When I finally cut them off and told them it wasn't working then they told me they had entered the code and after we hang up to power cycle the phone and they would then call back in 15-30 minutes to verify fix.

Now I still have to fix my gmail exchange (not working).

Thank you, it worked like a charm!

At first, I went to an AT&T store, and while they were very helpful and found the NXTGENGPO setting when I asked, they weren't able to enable it on their side. I then called technical support. The rep tried to guide me through some standard flowchart troubleshooting, but when I mentioned the setting she enabled it. After a restart it said "LTE" in the upper left corner, and lo and behold, my internet connection was up and running.

Dear docsanjay83

Just want to say a massive THANK YOU. After 3 visits and 3.5 hours in the local AT&T Store, you have done what they failed to do. I was about to give up on on AT&T when I read your post. I did not want to leave them as they have the best coverage.

It worked like a dream and THEY KNEW about it and said it was known fault!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope someone at AT&T is monitoring this forum and understands I was about to leave them. How many already have?

Thanks again docsanjay83

Could not have done this without you.
