music syncing problems iPhone 6

I have 128 gig iPhone 6 and I am trying to sync a 80 gig music library to it. The sync process gets hung on "Waiting for changes to be applied". I am syncing on a a 128 macbook pro with retina display and my iTunes library is on external hard drive.

Same problem... Have been working with a nice second level support tech to no avail... Also, an "engineer" provided some suggestions... 1) could be the external drive (rebuilt the library on my mac laptop and it hasn't helped), 2) could be third party, installed apps (deleted - still not working), rebuild the library and re-add in super small batches (tried, as above, at least twice - still isn't working), 3) add by kind of music, etc.

In my case, medium library - all software current - file types: lossless, purchased, protected, and mpeg (of various compressions). Up until the 128G iPhone 6, my 5s was perfect... Shouldn't have upgraded to this stupid phone... AT&T gives you 30 days - close to taking it back... Unbelievable...

Ok so i had to bite the bullet and reset my phone (erasing all content and settings) and then just let it backup and sync in one cycle to get my music library to Sync.

This is not a satisfactory solution as i know that If/when i want to add further music I'm going to have the exact same problem trying to sync it (as before).

Tired of battling with it.

After trying everything suggested above, I have figured out how to restore the ability to copy files (using Manual management) to iPhone 6. First off, if iTunes is hung on Waiting for Changes to Be Applied or Preparing to Update, cancel the sync by hitting the little "x" next to the hung message. Then click on your iPhone in the side pane and uncheck and re-check Manually Manage Music. The sync icon on your phone should go away. Then you can delete whatever greyed out tracks/vids you have on your device via iTunes. Then Control click on your iPhone in the side pane and select Reset Warnings. Hit Sync, and everything should run smoothly. After that, you should now be able to copy tracks over. It WILL happen again, so keep this handy. It's a lot quicker than doing a restore, and you get to continue where you left off instead of starting from scratch.

I'm not sure if this advice from mkrobin is really the true fix, and whether my repeated syncing and erasing beforehand helped, but I tried this and it does work. I can now manually manage my music, and drag extra albums on from iTunes and external folders, like I wanted to in the first place. It says something that I am celebrating a basic function that I expected on the first evening of using my iPhone 6, I will never get those wasted hours of frustration back though. The talk is that Apple will be releasing iOS 8.1 on the 20th October, do the engineers know about these issues I wonder and will we get a proper fix?

Thank you Amostyle! I have been having music sync problems since first activating my iPhone 6 128 gig. Your post made me check the iTunes registrationn. My original iPhone 5 was there as was another iPhone 5 (my iPhone 6 had somehow also registered as the 5 from which I restored from backup). I deleted both devices in my iTunes account. On the phone I went to settings, itunes and app store, Apple Id, sign out, and then sign back in. That finally registered the iPhone 6 correctly. The next sync worked fine.

I notice that this solution did not work for others, and I am sorry to read that. But there are other possible causes of the problem. This solution worked for me as long as I had iOS 8.0.2 installed. It seemed that it was important to do a sync without music and then to restart both iTunes and the iPhone. But I had perfect music syncs from the moment of my post until today.

However, I am sad to report that after a few blissful weeks of perfect syncs, after I upgraded to iOS 8.1, the same problem cropped up again. I am going to try the old solution and will report if it worked. 😕

Ok, I am back.

After upgrading to iOS 8.1 yesterday, the music sync problem came back. So I once again tried the fix and it worked and has worked properly after several syncs since. Here it goes:

Launch iTunes (12.0.1). Store Menu > View Account > Enter PW > Manage Devices > Manage > Remove device

Exit and go back to iTunes and select the phone. Deselect sync music and run a sync. Quit iTunes when done.

On the phone: Settings >iTunes & App Store > Apple ID > Sign Out [turn the phone off and restart it] Come back to Settings > iTunes & App Store > Password > Sign In.

Connect the iPhone to iTunes. Select sync music as per your usual setup and music installed properly.

The next time this happens, I may try just signing out on the phone first, without the iTunes.

I am still noticing some weirdness, but syncs are working fine and my music, apps, photos etc. are properly working on the phone. But the phone is not showing on manage devices under my account information (weird), and on the phone the app store keeps showing apps available for update even though I have already downloaded and installed them 🙂 but still 😕

Ive been having the same problems as you all. I have been trying to sync my music up since last weekend. That is when I fist got the 6 128g. I called Apple and after all their suggestions didnt work I did a restore 5 times. I FINALLY got it to where I wanted it. I too have over 20,000 songs in my library. I was only trying to sync half that. I think after I restored it last Sun, it finally worked. Fast forward to this past Fri night. I sync my phone. And 70% of the music was sucked off. Mind you I still have "SYNC MUSIC" checked with a little over 9,000 songs ready to sync. I ended up deleting and re-installing iTunes on my PC this morning and have been working on getting all the music I want on it. I have followed a few of your suggestions in this thread and I finally got. I honestly think that after all I did (even though Im still not suite sure what I did that made it work) that checking "MANUALLY MANAGE MUSIC" did it. Im scared to plug this phone in again to sync it. I may not do it again until they either come out with some iTunes and or iOS updates or I HAVE to.

On a side note, I was just syncing my phone and it did some really odd stuff. At first it was only syncing 7,000 of the 9,000 I wanted on there and that my iTunes said I was syncing. Then I went and told my phone to "show all music" on my phone and it sunk the 9,000. So weird. Plus, my iTunes said it was done syncing yet my phone continued to think and add songs. It took about another 10 min to sync the rest of the songs after iTunes was done. Odd......

This was my experience as well. Once you dump all your music and "manually manage music" the sync worked. You cannot check the "sync music" box on the Music tab or it will negate the manual method. All music must be manually dragged and dropped.

I spoke with Apple about this and they are working on a fix. For some strange reason even my unchecked songs sync even though I checked the "sync only checked songs and videos". Apple is aware of this too and working on it.

I have an iphone6 128GB and had the same problem as everyone here. I could fix everything by using the solution of Amostyle plus the additional advice of PAMalavet. Everything works well now and I just wanna thank you guys! Before I had fixed it, my iphone6 was also registered as an iPhone5 under "devices" in the iTunes store, exactly as PAMalavet described it. Apple does not seem to know about this. I told them about this thread, but their first steps were not successfull at all. Good to have people like you. THANK YOU!
