iOS 8 upgrade and now missing airplay icon

I as having a similar problem with the iOS remote application. I was trying to stream my iMac's media to my Apple TV, but the iMac would not show up as a choice. This was particularly frustrating because I have updated in the last to weeks to 1.) The Yosemite Beta on my iMac, 2.) New sotware on my ATV, and 3.) iOS8 on my phone. What to do?

The solution as to disengage home sharing on all three devices and then re-engage. Pretty simple, but I swore a lot before I arrived at this solution.

Okay i had the same issue.

I Used the airport utility app and accessed the airport express from my iPad. Made sure it was upgraded. Then out of no where it started to show the AirPlay icon!!!,

Try that, it worked for me. I am assuming it just didn't pick up the signal and by using the utility I "re-introduced" the two devices to each other.

Hard Reset on iPad

Update Apple TV software

Power Off and Power On all devices.

Select AirPlay icon and then place finger on AirPlay to scroll to see and select Mirroing.

note to Apple - don't fix what ain't broke!

I have this problem after upgrading my iPhone 5S to iOS 8 - no AirPlay icon in the swipe-up control centre panel.. If I reboot the phone it appears for a short while, but soon refuses to appear again. ****** annoying - I can't play music in the house any more.

I Can see the AirPlay button in the control. Bit when i open a Video in Safari The AirPlay Button is still missing

Can someone from apple please confirm that this is a fault/software related?

It does matter because when using control center and putting screen in sleep sometimes this then stops the video playing, it also makes it a nuisance when trying to fast forward/rewind a stream from the iphone using the apple tv remote

I Was having the same issues on my iPhone 5. None of the options listed here worked. In the end I opened iTunes and turned home sharing off and on again (a classic I.T solution!) and now it all works again 🙂

I Don't have a pc or Mac so couldn't do that, turned home sharing on and off and AirPlay on and off in Apple tv but to no avail. Any other ideas/people for same problem?

For the iPad a reboot seemed to work but that may have been coincidental because for the iPhone I rebooted without luck, but when I changed the wi-fi network to that of the airplay express ... BINGO it worked - now have the airplay icon back in the control centre. Hope that helps others.

Yes, I worked with Apple this AM. You need to close out all apps. Do this by double tapping the home button. Anything that is open will appear in the middle of the screen as a thumb nail. Flick each icon upwards and it will close the app. Once the apps are closed go to Settings/Music. On the bottom ride side you will see Home Sharing. Click on it and log out. Once logged out go to Settings and turn off your Wi-Fi. Reboot the iPAD. Turn on Wi-Fi and then go back to Settings/Music and log into Home Sharing. You should get your Airplay back.

The problem I'm having has nothing to do with Home Sharing - as I never used it. Refreshing Airplane Mode for an annoyingly long amount of time does indeed fix it - TEMPORARILY however. Issue cropped up in Beta 2. (I'm experiencing this on an iPad 3 and 5S)

I have also had this problem on my iPad mini with IOS 8. In the control center there was no icon for AirPlay (just a large one for AirDrop which spanned the entire width underneath the 5 (Airplane Mode - WiFi - Bluetooth - Do Not Disturb - Orientation Lock) icons above. I'd tried restarting, switching off wifi etc., but had no success.

I unintentially pressed and held the AirDrop icen for a second or two, and the AirPlay icon magically appeared.

I Couldn't find my air express icon either UNTIL I made sure that both were working off the same wifi network. Problem solved. Hope this works for you all.

In my case - there is JUST the one AirPort Express - and the problem still very much persists. Just give it some time and you'll see - you should still be experiencing it - given you're running either iOS 8 or 8.1

i pressed for a few seconds on the airdrop icon and released it. The AirPlay icon appeared.
