iOS 8 upgrade and now missing airplay icon

I use AirPlay to stream music from both iTunes and Pandora on my iPhone 5 to an AirPort Express. After upgrading to iOS 8, I no longer have an AirPlay icon in Control Center. The AirPort Express and the iPhone 5 are both connected to the same network. The AirPort Express is very new (purchased new from Apple within the past 90 days). It all worked great before upgrading to iOS 8

We have several thousand ipads in our schools. We updated about 500 of them to IOS 8 last week, and now 1 out of 30 does not have airplay access.

APPLE - please fix.

I did see a previous post, try pressing on the blank button where AIRPLAY is supposed to be for 4 seconds

Then, turn off wifi for 2 seconds and back on, and airplay did appear again.

In any case, this is a major problem, and it is not easy to tell tricky workarounds like this to 6000 users. Apple please fix.

tthis still seems to be a big problem.

have ipad2 appletv2 and iphone6

all have latest IOS version for their hardware

iphone6 shows AirPlay icon and can stream to appletv

ipad2 doesn't show icon and won't stream to appletv

got sonfed up with it that today I wiped iPad complately back to factory settings with iOS 8.1.3

no difference still no AirPlay icon

all devices are on same wifi cans can ping etc other etc.

this used to be reliable a year or more ago - now it just seems to to be a lottery.......

This problem appears to vary somewhat from user to user. However, this worked for me for iPad2 and Apple TV:

1) Confirm you have actually installed iOS8.2 under "About" in Settings on the iPad2.

2) Check under Apple TV settings that you are running version 7.1 of the Apple TV software.

3) Check you have Airplay turned on in the Apple TV settings

4) Reboot your iPad.

5) Swipe up at the bottom of the screen to reveal the notification centre.

6) You should see the Airplay icon, bottom centre of the notification centre window. If so, tap on it.

7) Select Apple TV and confirm you have a blue checkmark on the right hand side.

8) Swipe up gently to reveal the mirroring toggle switch and slide that to the ON position.

9) So long as your TV is tuned to HDMI 2 and your Apple TV is connected to the TV, you should now

see your iPad desktop on the TV again.

Hope that helps at least some fellow users?!

I am having the same issue on my iPhone 6 and iPad Air both running iOS 8.2. I have tried many, if not all, of the recommended fixes, but none of them worked. Finally, after clicking my heels three times, throwing salt over my left shoulder, crossing my fingers, going to confession, saying 3 novenas, and rebooting my device, I got the Airplay icon back. Then I woke up. Git 'er done, Apple!

Similar problem. Question: I`m using this in a school network. We have 2 apple TV`s connected to the network (Hard wired into the Lan not wifi). The ipads connect via wifi. I can connect my iphone 5 but not ipad 3. How does it know which apple TV to connect to (2 in school connected to same network).

I have tried everything in previous posts and cannot get airplay icon in ipad (Phone works fine). Any suggestions?

I had this same issue. I could not detect it. What worked for me (after checking to make sure I was connected to same wifi network, my iMac was set to use airplay and my iphone 6 was on wifi) I still couldn't figure it out. I could airdrop but not airplay... hmmm.

Then I thought... what if I turned on the bluetooth setting on BOTH my iMac and iPhone? Did that and now the option for airplay appears on my iPhone. What a stupid/silly concept. All the articles pointed me to wifi issue, but no- it was when i turned bluetooth on both devices that i am able to do airplay.

phew
