iGasLog app is not working on iPhone 5s after iOS 8 update

iGasLog app has stopped working in my iPhone 5s following update to iOS 8. I tried to seek developer iMobile Medic Ltd but their website does not work. Any suggestions?

There is never any guarantee software will be compatible with new operating system versions, computer or mobile. It is your responsibility to verify compatibility of your critical apps before upgrading to avoid just this situation.

As I said in my previous post, iGasLog appears to b abandoned by the developer - meaning they appear to no longer be developing the app. Once you upgrade, there is no way to downgrade to iOS 7. Your only hope here is to contact the developer - iMobileMedic.com - to see how they can help you.

Exactly, but in this case it's not a perfect example because Apple owns FileMaker, the developer behind Bento

My point was that a warning - if there is one - comes from the developer. I don't use iGasLog so I'm not aware if you need an account with them to use it. My guess is not. If that's the case, there is no way for the developers to know who you are and how to reach you with a warning.

So again it comes back to this - only you are responsible. I would also have worried knowing that the app has not been updated in three years. That's generally a good sign the developer has no interest in it's continued support.

It's hard to say what format they might be in but you can try a couple of things:

1) Try opening them with a plain text editor. like the following:

TextWrangler (Mac): http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/

Notepad++ (Windows & Mac): http://notepad-plus-plus.org

2) Try changing the extension to .csv and see if you can open it with Pages, Excel or another spreadsheet app.

I deleted my iGasLog (so doing this from memory), however I managed to get some of my backed up data by looking at the web link at the bottom left of the screen. I typed that in and it came up with all everything - in a textedit style format but the data was there. I have now downloaded the RCOA logbook which is nowhere as user friendly but at least this won't occur again. Hope this helps ...

I Got really excited when I saw this post, thank you. However when I went to the portal - the backups are also with the .backup extension and so I'm back to square one, not being able to open the file. It's gibberish! i tried textrwangler but still can't read the file- what is the point of backup files that are unreadable! I really don't know what to do- I need this data desperately!

Hi

The backup file is an ordinary SQL database, with sqlite3 extension. It can be opened with any sql database software but to be able to run a report or add more details, you will need to write an sql app which can handle this. I do not have one. I write down here how i continue to use this app. I have nearly 2000 cases in there so i do not want to rush to change or give up. It is inconvenient, but it works for me.

First of all, i have to state that the app runs on my ios 8.0.2, i can add cases, i can modify them, but cannot cancel and cannot use the menu button otherwise the app freezes down. So it is no problem to review cases but is not possible to enter new procedure, site, etc.

Running report:

Backup the iphone to mac and do not use encryption.

Use iphone backup extractor, and look for com.imobilemedic.iGasLog.

Extract to a folder.

Set up Mac OSX to display hidden files. (terminal window, enter defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES)

Navigate to the folder in which you saved the extract. You will find folder called Documents, then .appFiles and in here find iGasLog.sqlite3.

Rename sqlite3 to backup. Now you have the latest backup file.

The next step depends upon whether you have a device with ios7 or not.

If you have an ios7, then download the igaslog app using your itunes username and password (you will not need to pay for it again). Use wifi, and use the previously created backup file and restore the database from this backup. You will have the app with up to date data. You may now do whatever you want.

When you finished this, you can restore the latest version from backup you have created before the downgrade.

I am not saying this is a perfect way, but if you are approaching your ARCP or Appraisal depending upon your garde, this is an option until something better becomes available. If you have patient identifiable data in the database, be careful where you send the file to as it is not encrypted and you may have IG issue.

I personally have an old iphone 4 what i did not upgrade so an ios7 is always available.

All the best for everyone.

Do not forget relaunch Finder after terminal window entry. alt+right click on finder icon and click Relaunch

When all done, you may hide hidden files again: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles NO

Relaunch finder

For those, who use windows, the same applies, but you will need to find the windows equivalent of iphone backup extractor app. I do not use windows so i cannot help in this matter, but i am sure lots of apps are available.

HI

Does anyone know of a way to export the "frozen" data from IOS 8 devices yet? I (stupidly I admit) had about 6 weeks worth which was not backed up prior to my original upgrade to IOS 8, and am wondering if any of you more tech savvies know how to get at that data? I am ok with getting the rest of my data from my last backup.

thanks
