I did the 8.0.2 update on Saturday and the problem is still happening, albeit a fit less frequently, and does seem to correct itself hours later -- could be wishful thinking on my part. The 8.0.2 update does *not* fix the issue, so I guess that's why it wasn't listed on the fixes.
To be fair, the random app crashes could be that the app developer needs to update for the new OS, but has not done so. You may want to make sure that all apps are updated, and contact developers of those app that are not updated.
Please help test this theory. I believe this is an IPV6 related issue. Go to http://test-ipv6.com If it shows you ave an IPV6 address, turn off IPV6 on your modem and see if that help. I have not had any issues since I turned off IPV6 on my and my mother's C1000A modems. Apple needs to get with the modem manufactureres and ISPs to fix this issue.
I have IPV4 after running your test and checking your theory. This may have worked for you but my IPad Air is still acting up and I don't plan on playing around with my Comcast modem settings. Let Apple fix the problem. They have some of the best programers in the world trying to figure things out. Relax, things will get fixed.
I've had this same problem with the iPad Air since installing 8.0.2 (which I thought was designed to correct connection problems experienced with 8.0.1??) - dropping connection with my home wifi, failing to connect for ever. I've turned off router and turned on again, rebooted the iPad... and do we hear anything at all from Apple?? Perhaps the name of this forum is wrong - it seems that it should be called Communities Support Apple, because we get sod all from the company. This could drive me back to Windows and Android!
I too am still having the exact same problem with iOS 8.02 and Wi-Fi, 5G is nonexistent can't connect, my Samsung phone connects with my 5g no problem but the iPad, totally screwed up. I have also tried all remedies suggested, I rebooted my modem, I rebooted my router, I rebooted my iPad, I rebooted everything I've shut it all down, brought it all back up, nope, nothing makes any difference. They really need to fix this and they really need to make a comment means forms to let us know that they're working on it.
This appalling example of Apple making such a mess of the release of IOS8 is the reason why I now have a Sony Xperia z3 in place of my iPhone 5. I was so excited about the release of the iPhone 6 and Plus and would have upgraded the 5 to one of these phones, but for this seemingly apathetic attitude by Apple. To release iOS8 with so many bugs is really poor and my iPad Air 128gb cannot keep it's connection to any wifi network for more than a couple of moments at a time. When it does connect it takes forever to load pages and the whole experience is hugely disappointing. Have to say that I was always sceptical of moving to Android, but Sony have made the move easy. Not sure if I will ever consider iPhone again after owning this phone. Sorry to bash you Apple, but you have really let yourself down and have lost a long-term iPhone customer. My iPad just needs to work and do what it is designed to do. Please, please, please sort this out and quickly!!
This seems to have helped BIG THANKS 🙂
Just tested this, as iPad continues to drop wifi connection and I have to reboot to get it connected. The test shows that I'm not using IPv6 - only IPv4, so it doesn't work for me! Thanks for the test link, though!
I've just done this, but, of course won't know if it works for a while yet :-) However, what is the effect of turning this switch to "off" - i.e., how does it affect connection to wifi networks?
Possible fix. When originally installing 8.0 on my iPad it failed until I was able to get a code from
Apple for the two factor authentication. Wifi continued to worsen until yesterday when I attempted
to look at my profile for iCloud under Settings-> iCloud -> My Name.
It repeatedly asked for my password which I entered correctly.
While on my iPad I logged into my Apple id from the web, and sent the validation code
to the iPad I was working on.
I entered the code, logged into iCloud from the settings as I had tried but failed to do
before and now everythin appears to be working over the past 24 hours. A big difference
from Wifi failing 1-2 times per hour.
GIve it a shot
Have you done a Reset Settings Reset After Reset you need to enter your Router wireless key Also turn Router off at the mains for about 30 seconds Also check Router settings to see if an update is available. Bsydd uk
It also appears to have fixed a Bluetooth problem. While I don't use it much with my iPad, I could not forget any devices until I did the as noted in my previous message.
No offense but people are just grabbing at straws for a fix here. I'm glad this helps you but I've never had a problem with any updates or in this case complete operating system changes from Apple. We should have been notified if "two-step verification" was necessary in order for ios 8 to function properly. I think people should stop trying to fix this. It's Apple's responsibility, not ours.
Ironically screen just froze while entering reply, and had to go out and back in in order to continue my post. I had saved it as this happens frequently. Then when attempting to paste, below is what was pasted. This is something I copied couple days ago, and is example of another problem many are having. Random copied material comes up when trying to paste something new.
