iphone 6 has 50gb of "other" data

I was setting up my iPhone 6 and for some reason there is 50gb of "other" data that has appeared down in the data bar. Im not sure why this is happening. Ive also had issues syncing with it getting stuck on the last step but i think i solved that by turning of the wi fi sync. The other data is still there even after restoring from a back up. Thanks

I'm having this problem, too. The syncing on iOS8 to iPhone 6 is terrible. Please give me something to fix this, Apple.

ITunes for PC (10 and up at least) does not have the ability to archive old backups. Plus having to manually go into preferences and archive a backup kinda defeats the purpose of a automated backup scheme. most general users would not think to do that. At the very least Itunes could ask if you want a new one or overwrite the old one.

Personally I don't do iCloud backups. Personal preference. Besides, if iCloud does it, why not the local ITunes as well?

Probably because each backup is big; typically several GB. So on some systems keeping multiple backups would use a considerable percentage of the drive, and a full backup will take much longer than the incremental backup that it does now. But I agree, it would be nice to have an option to specify the number of backups you want to keep.

Let me add that when this first started I also traced down several corrupted music files on the phone that contributed to the problem.. Most of these were songs she downloaded from "Free" streaming music apps by my daughter or MP#'s she obtained from a friend of a friend of a friend, that then got imported into iTunes. Luckily I was able to locate them easily as the titles had also become corrupted. Anything with a gibberish title got canned.

I can confirm that I am using a USB port at the rear of my iMac and not a port in a USB hub.

Yes this issue does appear to occur when a sync is interrupted. iOS and iTunes ought to be able to cope with a sync interruption without rendering your device unusable. If a sync requires caching of over 50GB of data on the device then in my view this is appalling programming practice and Apple ought to devise a better model. Having said that, I have also been using iOS devices for 7 years without ever experiencing this problem yet I have repeatedly experienced this since purchasing an iPhone 6.

Many others have reported syncing issues with the iPhone 6 running iOS 8. The problem is that syncing freezes with messages such as "Waiting for changes to be applied". If this is not a bug then what is the recommended way to safely exit out of a sync when this problem is encountered?

I have followed all of the recommended guidelines and this has happened yet again. I started a sync (via USB cable in rear of iMac) and it got stuck on "Waiting for items to copy". 12 hours later I stopped the sync process and other data had expanded to 50GB. I did another full restore and backup. I have since added large amounts of music to my library and tried syncing over wi-fi. Although it is very slow in comparison to cable syncing, I have twice been able to sync successfully using this method. While it is working, I am going to stick with wi-fi until I learn that there has been a resolution to this issue.

I found that the "other" data was tied to photos and videos taken on my iPhone 6 (64g).

I deleted over 2k pics and videos (still have 1k pics and vid on the phone) and my "other" data went from 20+g to 8.6g.

I tried doing the restore, but kept getting the "other" data as the pics and video and info would go back on the device.

I backed up all my photos and videos before deleting.

Hope this helps you.
