Ever since I updated apple tv the airplay icon does not show up on my iPad/iPhone. If Apple TV is turned on (off standby,) icon appears. Have been through all the setting and tried all suggestions in a google search.

So when I I turn it on manually it's says on the screen for a second, that my Apple TV is not connected to the internet.

my Apple TV is a week old after being replaced by apple by apple for a faulty unit (blank screen).

after up dating tonight this problem arose.

any help would be appreciated. James.

Hmm, I've had this very same problem, it's the reason why I have had mine replaced.

When I took mine to an apple store, the "Genius" plugged in through the mini USB on it and had no data link, he thought his lead was faulty so he went and got another but still nothing so he said my ATV3 was at fault and replaced it. Of witch it was because I had no home screen or no Video out.

So after he dealt with me I was browsing other things in the store and noticed him plugging in the display model to itunes via iMac, so I looked over his shoulder and and low and behold still no data link on that either.

I Personally have never been able to connect this way but will give it a go now, so watch this space?

Thanks robbbX,

I restored ATV3, it downloaded and installed the (same) software V7 and then my devices did not connect anymore.

Then I did a restart and now everything is working like before.

Airplay Apple TV shows up on my Ipad, Ipod and Macbook Pro with ATV3 in sleep mode and can connect without any issues.

I have exactly the same issue following the latest software update.

The Airplay icon does not appear for any of my devices while the ATV 3 is in standby, as soon as you wake it up with the ATV remote it appears (and works normally thereafter).

Pretty annoying... ATV software is very buggy in general switching source devices (which never seems to be fixed) and now they've added this little gem.

Oh well.

Same issue here. Airplay is not possible with "wake-on-lan" feature. On 2nd gen ATV it works but on 3rd gen with latest software it just doesn't. I have tried with all different iDevices (iPad, iPhone 5s/4s, iMac etc).

Also USB-port on ATV3 is disabled on this newest software and device can not be detected with PC or iMac anymore. So it can't be restored too.

ATV2 detects just fine and is restorable if wanted.

"Apple TV has to be connected to the network in order for airplay to work. Intermittent issues like that are typically caused by interference."

Not necessarily true now with the IOS8 and the Apple TV upgrades although I am having intermittent issues with connection through Peer to Peer connections also. I thinks there maybe a bug with the upgrades either IOS8 or the Apple TV, I managed to get it running yesterday for 3 hours but today nothing after having rebooted and using multiple iPads and iPhones.

I managed to find ATV3 iOS 6.2 on a quick google search but still did not manage to reinstall it as this option was not offered on the restore..

Also there is a procedure to get itunes to recognise ATV in case you are having troulble connecting.

PPPlease let me know if you manage to do this as I started this thread and have yet to hear back from ATV engineers.

Many thanks, James.
