How to turn off app badges for Twitter on iOS 8?

Ever since I've updated my phone I have been getting an app badage for Twitter and the switch to turn it off is gone.

iPhone 5, iOS 8

Nope. The badge display and settings for it depend on the app properly coded for those API's and lack of corrupted data/settings/firmware. Since this issue happens only with the Twitter app, and a minute fraction of Twitter users at that, it clearly is app or phone issue related

FYI, Apple doesn't respond to bug reports, let alone "admire" them.

Yet the the setting to disable badges appears for virtually all others using the twit app and everyone with all other apps. The problem is with the app interacting with your phone.

  1. The fact that "virtually all others" have the badge toggle does not change the fact that some people don't have it. I don't know what your point is here other than to be dismissive of the issue, like you've been throughout this thread.
  2. "The problem is with the app interacting with your phone" is a meaningless statement unless you can explain how it's an app/phone problem. Clearly we don't know what the problem is, since no one (including you) has come up with a permanent fix that actually works for everyone.
  3. You keep telling people to refer back to your troubleshooting steps, and to read the entire thread, but if you'd read the entire thread, you'd see that your solution does not work and that the bug is present on non-jailbroken phones. It's not at all unreasonable for people to be unwilling to factory-reset their phones when they can read the thread and see that others have done that to no avail.
  4. It's super rude to be dismissive of everyone still having this problem because you offered a non-solution and for some reason you think everyone should be satisfied with that. The whole point of these forums is to actually discuss app issues and listen to what other people are saying and try to figure out the solution, but you're ignoring anyone who contradicts what you've already decided is the (non) answer.

For what it's worth, I have a non-jailbroken 5s running iOS 8.1.1 and Twitter 6.18, and I'm missing the badge toggle, too. I didn't notice it until after I added a new account to the app, but I can't verify it wasn't there before—the new account gets more notifications, and I didn't feel the need to turn off the badges till now. In my case, I can make the badge icon go away by checking the app, usually; though the number on the badge seems not to correlate to the number of notifications I have, and sometimes after checking, the number actually goes up. Sometimes I have a badge, check the app, and none of my accounts have notifications. I can't tell if switching between accounts has any effect on what the badges do.

I know this thread's a few days old, but I'm hoping someone experienced a Thanksgiving miracle and stumbled upon a permanent fix.

Thanks for your reply!

Unfortunately there is still no solution for this problem. My current point is that is should be an iOS-Twitter dual problem. iOS is clearly involved in the issue, because there are only the following two cases:

  1. Settings is displayed correctly: Twitter did not ask iOS to be able to show icon badges, so iOS should not display the switch. In this case iOS should not put badge to the icon in any circumstances. If a program asks it to do so, it should ignore the request.
  2. Settings is displayed incorrectly: Twitter did ask iOS to be able to show icon badges, so iOS should display the switch, which it doesn't.

So in either way something is wrong with the authentication phase, maybe it is Twitter's fault, since currently all my other apps behaving correctly.

I asked a large audience on twitter if they have the switch or not. I will show up with the results later this day.
