there could be several things causing this, I will make the assumption your password is correct and works on other device too.

  • Make sure your are connecting to WPA2 network
  • Renew your lease with the router
  • Logging to router and change the password

Ok, 4 days later after purchase and I still have no resolve to my iphone 6 showing incorrect password when trying to connect to my wifi. Again, I have 10-11 other devices that will connect with no issues (Apple, Android, Roku and others). I can't get any help from Apple other than the generic ineffective help as listed above and I'm about to take this piece back to At&t and get something else that will work correctly. This is ridiculous Apple! Why can't you make quality products anymore? I was one of Apple's biggest fans, but now this? I can't continue waiting for a resolve when the 8.0.1 update today, wrecked everyone's phones all over again. This is eating up my data plan without being able to use wifi. APPLE PLEASE HELP ME! And please don't link me to another Senior Advisor that will rudely hang up on me as on Sunday, 9-21-2014.

I unfortunately was one of the less intelligent people that purchased an Iphone 6 on Saturday, September 20th, 2014. I allowed the At&t agent to set up the phone for me and it started interacting and downloading my personal info via icloud while on their local wifi network. I then proceeded home and tried to link to my home wifi router of which 10-11 other devices are successfully linked. My iphone continuously gave me an error message that I had entered an incorrect password. This was not the case because I am very familiar with my password, and as I said, all of my other devices are connected fine. I even reset network settings on other devices just to prove that they would reconnect successfully. I then called apple Saturday night, and the so-called genius proceeded to walk me through all of their generic steps that are easily read on line, but none of them worked. I reset my phone as new - no luck, I reset my phone from previous backup on my computer - no luck, I reset my router - no luck, I forgot network - no luck. I even explained that all of my other devices were working fine, and then was told that I may have too many devices on my router, so I deleted all of my devices one by one from my router's history and changed my password. I then tried to connect again with my iphone 6 and it still shows incorrect password. I called back on Sunday and then spent a significant amount of time going through all of this again with another non-genius just to have them connect me to a "Senior Advisor". This was a joke as he spent about 5 minutes on the phone and actually hung up on me. I can't believe how horrible this company has become. I have had iphones and other apple devices since 2007, and until now, you couldn't pry me away from them, but at this point, if I can't find a resolve within about another day or so, I'm taking it back to my local At&t store and moving away from apple for good. I needed help, and they weren't interested in anything but giving me generic advice and defending their product no matter how bad it has been this go around.

I didn't read through all of this, so I'm not sure if you've resolved your issues with connection yet. Here are some thoughts that you may consider when attempting to connect your device to your network.

does your iPhone connect okay to other networks?

- most networks that are available publicly have mixed encryption allowing for nearly any device to connect without an issue, your home network can be considerably more limited depending on setup & type. If you can connect to another network then your router or modem is very likely the source of the connection issue.

do you have a modem & a router or do you have a modem/router combo providing your wifi network?

- this will allow you to determine which device you may have to address to resolve the issue.

- does your password have symbols, i.e., *, @, !, #... etc. these can, on occasion cause mobile devices to not connect to networks, try changing your password to resolve.

- while nearly all new mobile devices are compatible with both TKIP and AES encryption types, if your modem or router are only set to one, this can also cause an issue. apple airport base stations are dual encrypted by default, most other devices have the option selectable.

Before trouble-shooting, go into the settings of your iPhone; settings> wifi - if the network is listed and has an ℹ to the right, tap that and choose forget network at the top.

Okay, as Leecanon noted, modem AND routers have what's called provisioning. think of it like meeting someone, you shake their hand and a conversation starts. What happens here is that you have all these devices that are talking to your modem/router and they're holding a conversation fine, you introduce a new device and your modem/router just drops the ball and doesn't recognize this new person so it doesn't allow it into the conversation.

Most of the time you can power cycle the device, depending on what it is and how it connects try the following;

- cable modem/router: unplug the power, disconnect the coaxial cable and remove the backup battery for 1 - 3 minutes. make sure to reconnect the coax first so you have a connection to the internet before powering it up. (as an aside, you wanna do this too if you loose internet due to power or service outages)

- DSL modem/router: unplug power for 30 seconds, reconnect and try to connect your device

- standard router (any make): unplug the power only - leave connection to modem - for 30 seconds. reconnect and test wifi connection

If these fail and you're absolutely sure you know what the password is, go into your modem/router settings under it's wireless settings and remove the password and re-enter it as you believe it is. Make sure to update those changes and attempt to connect again. If you have to run through multiple steps remember to forget the network each time if it is saved.

If you're trying to connect to the network, but you're not sure what your password might be exactly and you have a mac computer:

(1) go to spotlight (the magnifying glass in the top right), in the search field type in "key" or "keychain" and open keychain access.

(2) select the "system" padlock in the top left

(3) choose "password" under "categories" on the left

(4) locate, under the "kind" column, "airport network passwords" and find your network name

(5) double click or click on the ℹ icon at the bottom of the keychain access window and a new box will appear

(6) check the box that says "show password" and put in your admin name & password for the computer to show information, your password will be displayed in the field to the right of the checkbox.

I hope this helps! Again, if you're still having an issue, contact Apple @ 800-275-2273

Fixed my home wifi connection issue myself while poking around the router settings while waiting for the online apple chat tech help session guy to figure out what to do next. Turns out MAC filtering is on and I just added the phone to the allowed list. Why this device needed that to be done, and every other device known to man (being in silicon valley that would be everything) that anyone has brought over to the house hasn't had an issue is beyond me.

Ok, after 3 1/2 weeks of misery, and returning the original Iphone 6 for another, with it still not working, I found a rigged workaround. You will have to manually add your iphone's wifi address (found in settings>general>about) to your accepted MAC address in your router's settings. This is a pain in the neck as all of my other devices will work fine without doing this. It's actually pretty easy, but should never be required which still infuriates me. On my AT&T router, when I add the MAC address, it automatically places it on the blocked list, but all I had to do after was hit the left arrow and it switches it to the accepted list. After all of the other suggestions that do not work, this one finally did and should be the culprit of most of you guy's problems as well. Hope it works for you and I hope Apple gets their act together!
