I stayed up all night figuring this out and it finally worked. However, the apple support, nor my WiFi provider knew what to do. They are no help, and I agree with most of these posts, these products are too expensive to get such poor customer assistance. I hope my resolution helps... so here goes!
All you have to do is change the name of your network and the the pass code. I did this simply by just adding a number to the end of the current network name and the same number to the end of the pass code so it would be easily remembered. This will change nothing else. Unfortunately, everyone else will have to sign on again, but your devices will immediately pick up the new network name and it will work!
The hard part is that this has to be done through your IP address ( this information can be found under your network settings right on your computer under details), so you go to the internet and type in your IPV 4 router address just like you would type in a url, and it will take you to your server website. There you should have access to your WiFi settings to change this. However, it may ask you for a user name and a passcode to get access to your setting, and worst case scenario is you have to call your WiFi provider to help you out with this part, but whatever you do do not reset everything as this is what your provider will suggest..... That would be a nightmare. Just change the name of the network and the pass code, and it will work! I really hope this helps!
I have tried everything suggested here and by Apple with no resolution. i am waiting to here back from the senior advisors working on my case. WhenI called on Wednesday they finally said that it could be a software issue and the engineers are working on a resolution. they are going to push new software to me as soon as they have It fixed.
Apple is now having me send the phone to them and they are going to either fix it or send me a new phone. still not sure what is causing the issue, but I'm glad to finally have a resolution. We went over our data this month because of the wifi issue. It's not easy keeping a teenager off her phone. :-)
Lawrence, I think it is a software problem.
After iOS 8 update my wifi simply stopped to work.
There is this discussion wifi password incorrect after iOS 8 update
and apple finally started working on the fixes, the iOS 8.3 has
fixed some problems. Unfortunatelly my iphone 5 is still not working, and I
have no hopes about 8.4.
Perhaps the problem occurs due to specific hardware configurations and the new iOS 8 software, since only some devices were affected. That the iOS 8 came up with the problem, there is no argue.
I would agree it has to be a software problem. I just started having this issue on my Iphone5 running IOS 8.3 this week and have tried everything listed everywhere to get it to work including
Reset Network Settings
Reset All settings
Unplug Modem and Router
Change Router Name
Change Password
Shut off Router Security Settings
Reset Router to factory defaults
Restored phone from backup
Erased all phone data and tried from it as new phone.
After going through all this you'd think there would be some hardware issue, but what tells me its not is that my phone connects to my work wi-fi with no issue what so ever. And then my laptop, nook, and wife's iphone5 all connect to my router at home just fine. So both my phone and router work fine with other devices but they themselves won't play nice. Most of the time I get the incorrect password error, but sometimes just get the unable to join network error. A few times after doing something above it was able to connect, but it never lasted. Just gets booted off after a bit to go back to the same errors after. I would love to hear other ideas if there are any.
I am facing the same issue with my iPhone 6 plus ios 8.2 version. When trying to connect it shows incorrect password error which is not true. My iPad is connected to same network. The problem is with iPhone and Mac. Tried doing everything u suggested -resetting network setting, location/ system services wifi networking , phone reboot but no success . Pls help !
Hi Turn Router off for 30 seconds Then if you can go on the website for your make of Router check for Firmware update About every 2 months on All my Apple Devices i restore back to factory settings this gets rid of any bugs And makes iPhone / IPad run like new . Cheers Brian
Thanks Brian but my firmware is up to date and my backups have the same issue.
I did notice something strange though. If I stand right next to my router it connects fine. But as soon as I walk 5 feet away I start losing the connection then it drops entirely. Again other devices in my home have no issue. And it works normal on my work wi-fi
That symptom sounds like interference from other nearby networks. If your router has an option to find the best channel try using it. If it doesn't have that option try changing the channel manually to see if a different channel works better. Also, if your router has both 2.5 and 5 GB bands, make sure they have the same password. There have been several posts recently from users who changed their password, but only for one frequency band.
router reboot worked for me. My phone and Mac now both are connected and working fine. Thank Brian
You mentioned doing an "Erase all Content & Settings" earlier and also that it does work well with your work Wireless.
I would try doing a restore directly from iTunes and not the iPhone itself. The iTunes restore will find a clean copy of the OS from Apple and essentially reformats the iPhone and replaces the OS. The "Erase All Content & Settings" will do some of the same, but if there is corrupted data in the OS rebuild it does, you will continue to have the same issue.
Beyond that, if you have a case on the iPhone, I would also suggest taking it out of the case for a time and testing it. If it is working on other wireless networks but your home network, it is looking more like your own network unfortunately. Also keep in mind if you are trying to connect to the 5 GHz band, the distance is a lot shorter than 2.4 GHz.
Good luck.
This is my first time on forum. I only made this account bc I was having same problem and I just fixed mine. I browsed all over the web looking for a solution and couldn't find any and when I fixed it, I was so happy. It looks like so many people are having this issue and no one has an answer anywhere I could find. I went into my router settings using the IP address. You know 192.168.1.1 or something similar I guess depending on your router. I went to the devices listed on my router. Then I deleted my iphone from the listed devices. I went back to my iphone and reconnected to my network. It asked for my password and presto! My iphone connected.
OK.... After struggling with this very annoying problem since early January, with an essentially useless iPod Touch 5th gen... I think I have a solution. (Note: I have tried EVERY solution offered both here, and at the actual live person Apple In-Store Genius with no success.) But after watching this longest thread in Apple history, I see there might be as many "solutions" as there are owners. Here's mine, and after 5 days of consistent wifi Pandora streaming, and all apps, I can say it works (only work-able if you own a dual ban 2.4 & 5 Ghz router):
Log into your router wifi settings
Go to the 5Ghz side of the router wifi settings
LOWER the bandwidth for 5 Ghz is to 20 Mhz... by default it is set at 20/40 Mhz
Go back to your iPod/iPhone
Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings. This will force your ipod/iphone to try a fresh start with your new router settings.
Go to
Settings Wifi and select the 5 Ghz side of your available wifi connections. (On my Belkin this was called ".media")
Enter password. Bingo! First time in 5+ months that the password has been accepted!!
Has "ok" range... works about 30 feet and one floor away. Streams consistently with Pandora, gathers all mail and Facebook.
Now... Apple needs to come up with a iOS repair for this since my device will never work while I travel since I cannot go tinkering with every router in the world.
Like many here, I had the same problem with the password for the router not working for the wifi. Here's what worked for me, as nothing else I found online did.
I went into the router via 192.168.1.254 and in the wireless part I noted that WPS was turned OFF. I turned it ON and it worked! Just for kicks I turned it OFF again, and darned if it the Iphone 6 didn't come up to enter the password again. Click it back on and it worked!
The power went out here a few weeks ago, I'm thinking when it came back on, it set the WPS to OFF, because the Iphone wifi had always had worked here since I got it.
Thanks.
OK, finally someone that understands the real problem here. All of the router setting fixes in the world won't help someone who is traveling. My daughter is in Europe on a 4 week trip, she cannot connect to wifi anywhere. Airports, hotels, coffee shops, AirBnB apartments, etc. She can't possible make any changes to any of these routers. And she connects just fine when she's home or at school. Does anyone have a fix that can be implemented just on the phone and not a router??
I Had the exact same problem and it happened suddenly after having been connect for a year or so. I did the upgrade and rebooted everything. Nothing worked. Then I tried again to enter the correct password for my wifi again and still failed. Went to the "i" for info on the router on the iPhone and all the fields were Blank. No IP address, no subnet mask, nothing. The only place I could enter info was under the option for Search Domains. I entered the search domain that is on my iPad which is successfully connected to the Comcast wifi and voila!!iphone accepted the password and I am now connected. Hope this helps.
